Looking for a QB Pro 2010 trial edition compatible with Mac for my class

US QuickBooks for Macintosh

I got the QB Pro 2010 textbook that came with the trial CD. It is not compatible with Mac. How do I get a version that is compatible with Mac? I already spent enough on this book. The CD's should be compatible with ALL systems!!!!!

The CD likely is a sample data file. Another CD is the program. Do you not already have the program?

It's hard to know which specific book you are looking at. I teach from a couple and have evaluated about 7 of them. Most, not all, come with 140-day use of the program.

I don't know about the MAC program, but all the PC versions also come with (one or more) sample data file; a variation of Rock Castle Construction.

That simply is to allow you to follow the instructions in the book with the same data you see in the book.

You can get a MAC book. You can convert this file from PC to MAC. You can use this book and your own sample file, if the MAC comes with a version of Rock Castle Construction.

I teach Mac people in my PC lab often. The functions are basically the same as the terminology is the same. An invoice is an invoice, for instance.

So, I am not sure what really to help you with. You posted on a user peer forum. We didn't sell you the book.

I understand you didn't sell me the book. There were 2 CD's, one is a data file and one is the QB Pro 2010 Student trial version. I don't have QB on my computer since the trial version can't be installed since it is not compatible with Mac.

The textbook I have that came with the CD's is called "Using QuickBooks Pro 2010 for Accounting" by Glenn Owen

It looks like the sample company is called "Century Kitchens"

Are you taking a class or are you trying to do self-paced learning?

I have not come across a student guide that includes the MAC version at all. I don't know that Intuit markets it like this at all.

You have a 140-day allowance but it is a full product.

Those of us that teach this are able to get a school "site license" that allows us to install the real product on the school lab computers. On Intuit's Education program website I have never seen Mac offered at all.

I don't know who suggested you get the book you got, or is directing you, but if you seriously want only Mac, you have been misled.

You wouldn't expcet to buy MS Office and have it work on Mac or PC. There is a specific product for each computer because the operating systems are in competition.

Many people use QB for PC on Mac with Parallels. The PC QB products still have more functionality than Mac.

You can play around with QB Online version, from any web browser.

It really depends on your end goal.

If you are looking for job skills, nearly everyone is using the PC products. About the only clients I have that use Mac are small, graphic artist, one person, businesses.

Thanks for the info.  I am finding out that the 2 versions are different and that I will have to use a Parallel to run the program on my Mac.  This is all new to me.

This is for an actual accounting class that I am taking.  The company I work for uses PeachTree as opposed to QB and for the next 3-6 months I am the last person with a PC in the office, then we will all be Mac.  My job is putting me through formal training for accounting, little did I know I would encounter all these issues with software.

Good luck to you. I teach about 150 QB students every year.
