lock and unlock net pay

US QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions : 11.0: Contractor

on previous editions of quickbooks, "lock net pay" was the automatic default on all paycheck details, after they'd been issued.  after the most recent update, however, ours are automatically going to "unlock net pay" which can be a real issue if someone isn't paying attention.  does anyone know how to set "lock net pay" as the default on ALL checks?

 Hi Thenumber77,

If you print or assign a check number to your paycheck, the paycheck will be "locked". Hope this helps...

I discovered this same issue today in Enterprise 12.0.  I've been on the phone for a long, long time trying to get somebody to figure this out.  They told me that when creating payroll, you must click the "Assign Check Numbers to Handwritten Checks" button (see Step 2 of creating payroll) in order to have the net pay locked.  I tried this, and it only works if Direct Deposit is not checked.

Manually entering check numbers to direct deposit checks previously created doesn't work.

So I marked a direct deposit check "To Be Printed," let QB assign it a number, printed it, and net pay is still unlocked.

I am now talking to 5th person trying to find out why the direct deposits won't lock unless you manually go in to each one and select the button. Unfortunately for us customers, they don't know what I am talking about. I find it very upsetting that they charge for direct deposit and can't have a MAJOR software flaw repaired.

Can you all please post what version of QuickBooks you are running, what the release number is and what windows you are running.

You can find your release number by pushing F2 in your QuickBooks.

Windows 7 Ultimate, QuickBooks Enterprise 12.0, Release R12P. I am upgrading to 2013 today and maybe that version won't have this problem.

I have upgraded to 2013 Enterprise and Direct Deposits are not locked either. If you save a dd paycheck as locked and then re-open it, it is Unlocked so you can't even manually save it as locked. You can only Lock it while working on it but once you leave, it's Unlocked. This is a serious issue since paychecks, federal government taxes, unemployment taxes and banking are affected by each Direct Deposit.

Same problem - nothing I do will make an old Paycheck stay in LOCK NET PAY.  If I lock net pay to edit a check -  and exit paycheck detail - it will be unlocked when I go back into it.  THIS IS A PROBLEM - Enterprise Version 2012 R5P.

Called tech support - they recommended several "fixes" -during payroll none worked. (eg Paycheck Options - "print checks in QB" vs "print Handwritten Checks/ Direct Deposit"

Don't waste your time with tech support who say they have "fixes"....it's a serious software glitch and last I heard was Staci (employee) had reported it to Intuit engineers. That was a month ago and still have not heard anything nor seen a fix update happen.

Obviously Intuit has no clue what a huge flaw this can be.

I just tested my QuickBooks file 2013 R5 release. The initial paycheck was not assigned with a check number, the Unlock radio button was highlighted. After I assigned the paycheck with a check number and unmark "to be printed", then clicked on paycheck detail, the review paycheck is now "locked".

Try this and let us know if it works

thank you!

The ones i tested were regular paychecks, however if yours are direct deposit, I suggest using DD and a number. Example DD 1, DD 2 and etc.

I print my Direct deposits on real checks along with the paychecks and you can not lock them. I am also on the 2013 R5P release and its still a problem with dd's. My paychecks lock. The direct deposits do not- Even if you lock, close, and open again, they are unlocked.
