Live Community

Live Community is new for Tax Year 2008 and is set by default to open once the program is launched. It can not be closed, but can be minimized by clicking on close at the bottom of the Live Community screen.

To start the program with the Live Community screen minimized:

1. While in the Program,

2. Click on Tools on the menu bar.

3. Click on Options on the drop down menu.

4. In the section for Program Startup uncheck the box "Show Live Community at Startup".

Thanks for the response, but it was pretty generic and, as I believed I made clear in my original question, I had pretty much already figured all that out for myself anyway. I was hoping for a way simply to get rid of the tab altogether. Plus I'm still not sure whether the Live Community link is connecting in the background when I have the tab minimized. It seems yet another year has gone by and Intuit still hasn't learned a very simple rule: Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, should come with an Off Switch. I notice on the Lacerte and Quickbooks boards that they're squawking about this very same annoyance.

If the Live Community link just absolutely has to be there, at least make it an icon on the toolbar so that it's easier to ignore. Then make the toolbar or iconbar user-configurable, but now I'm just dreaming.

I agree with you that these program options should not take up screen space, hopefully Intuit gains some insite from user comments.

Although it was helpful to have a response from the Live Community, I agree that it should not take up any screen space. Having it as an Icon on the Tool Bar is a great idea so it would be easily accessible but not in the way.

I don't know whether creating an Amen Corner will influence Intuit's decisions at all, but I too object to the screen real estate taken up by Live Community, and would prefer to see it as a toolbar button.

I've unchecked "Show Live Community at startup" under General in Tools/Options. The Live Community annoyance still opens when I start the program. Please fix this annoyance. Thank you.

I also have had issues with it not disappearing when that is unchecked. If you manually pull it flat to the right, it will stay there on re-opening. I find it very annoying, as that is one more setting I'm going to have to configure on each workstation. I love the easier access to the community, I have no doubt it will make the community more valuable, but taking away screenspace for it is just wrong.

I'd sure like to get rid of it - especially on my laptop which is NEVER connected to the internet! What a waste of screen space and processing power!
