Last fiscal year's figures on this fiscal year's balance sheet?

US QuickBooks Premier : 2010: Contractor

Why are my "dividends paid" from last fiscal year still showing up on this year's balance sheet?

The other software I used before this cleared this figure out in Equity after the close of each year.

Any ideas?

If your "dividends paid" account is an equity account you must make closing entries at the end of the year.
