No. There are many backup programs out there. I used Second Copy.

Hmm??? Could I have been clearer when I asked that question? Did I mark the question solved after it was answered?

George, they may be talking about "Automatic Detail Save" in Master Options, Setup, Numeric Detail Input.

If so, then I guess the answer is Yes and they should look at this and this.

i was looking  for something which would automatically Backup all ( the command in the left hand column).  I am backing up the data files, using another program , but to Restore from that is cumbersome. I think I will suggest this to Lacerte. thanks for all the help

I'm still a little lost, but you can make a backup of a group of clients by hitting F3, select "All Clients", then OK, then Control B for backup.

So, my first guess was right. Here is the correct link to Second Copy? It is one of many backup programs, but I found it very easy to use. The only drawback was that if the program was open at 8pm when the backup occured, then there was at least one file not backed up. 2 am is probably a better time. I made up for it by doing a different backup every day of the week for the current year program and weekly for the prior years.

george, does this back up like a bona fide Lacerte back up, or is it just backing up those

name.i11  single files.  the Lacerte backup has  about 8 or 9 files for each  individual, if you look at one  single backup for one individual  .

The solution

I copied the folders (idata, cdata, etc and optionXX) which can then be accessed just like a Lacerte backup. Copy X:\lacerte\11tax\idata to a flash drive Y:\lacerte\11tax\idata using drag & drop (or use cdata or pdata for a smaller test.) Then go to lacerte and restore from Y:\lacerte\11tax\idata to see that it works.  See also this old post  or this one and "What files need to be backed up" in this old 2004 suport bulletin

You must copy the whole folder. The only way to back up one client is via Lacerte Backup.
