#keylearning - Understanding Page Widths
A common problem website designers face is figuring out the optimal width for their pages.
By default in most Sitebuilder templates, the page width is set to 800 pixels, which means that if your monitor's resolution is set to 800x600, then the website will take up the entire window. If the monitor's resolution is set to something larger, like 1280x720, then there will be extra space to the left and right of your website that is filled with whatever your page background is.
The browser doesn't automatically expand your content, just as it doesn't automatically reduce the size of your content, because sites built with SiteBuilder have fixed widths instead of variable widths. We do this so that you can build your site exactly how you want it to be seen with the content to appear where you want it to.
To adjust your page width in Sitebuilder:
1. Launch SiteBuilder.
2. Open the page that you would like to edit.
3. Click the Page Info button.
• Page Info has an icon that looks like a lower-case "i", and can be found in the second toolbar from the top of SiteBuilder.
• Clicking this button will make the Properties Editor display the Page Properties
4. Customize your page width with the Properties Editor on the right.
5. Save and publish the page to see your changes.
Also, Google has a cool tool you can use to check out what your website will look like on different browsers and resolutions:
