#keylearning - How to change the domain associated with your site.

If you have several domain names in your account and want to change the one associated with your site, here's how to do that.
To associate a domain with a different site:
1. Log in to your website account.
2. Click Domains in the left-hand navigation menu.
3. Locate the section for the domain name you want to re-associate and click Change site association.
4. Select the new associated website from the drop-down menu.
5. Click Save.

Hi. Thanks for this. I actually found the way to do it shortly after asking the question. That was about twenty four hours ago. But the site doesn't come up - I get a "can't find site" message and an automatic referral to Homestead, although if I look at the 'my websites' page the change looks as though it's happened. Is this something that will sort itself out or do I have to do anything? Regards, ejh20

It sounds like that you have not published your new site yet. You have to click the "Publish" button and publish all. After you publish, you should see your site instantly. Also remember to refresh your browser.

I did publish. And I just published again to make sure. But me site still refuses to show when I type in the www. address.

Hi. Thanks for the help with this. The problem was with the home page. Because I designed the site myself and didn't use a template, I had called the home page 'home'.Tthis was why the search engines didn't recognise the site. When I changed the home page name to 'index' it solved the problem. Hope this helps others with similar problems. Thanks again.

You need to build a siteerror404 page. Go to help center ("Get help" button at the top right of your Intuit Websites account), and search "page not found".

Yes, our system requires the home page to be named 'index' - sorry I wasn't around to help but glad to hear you figured it out!

Antioxidant has a good point, having a siteerror404 page is a good idea.

Thanks for posting your question!

When you click on Domains on the left (step #2 mentioned above) you're taken to another page and you'll see the domains listed there, including BillionaireAddresses.com. You can then follow steps #3 - #5.

Hello,

My problem is that they have the domain name I purchased associated with the active account I already had. I want to use the www.wermusic.info to create a site on music. my other site is www.summitbodybuilding.com which is all about weight lifting. I tried what you said but it keeps saying that it is associated with my name??? Please can someone help??

Hi Marie0926,

Welcome and thanks for joining our Community!

You have a free account that includes one website with 3 pages. You have multiple domains in your account (the 2 you've mentioned) but since your account only includes 1 website, both domains will be associated with that one site. If you want to have multiple websites you'd have to upgrade your account to a paid account. If you'd like to do that, please let me know and I'll upgrade your account.

Hello Lynette,

This discussion is related to my question so I thought I'd jump in here. So, I have a URL from another company. If I understand correctly, the process I just went through on Homestead (if done correctly) will get my Homestead web site to show up with that same original URL address, as opposed to http://hstrial-mynamehere.homestead.com/ ?

If so, how long does that turnaround usually take?

This posting is about domains already showing in your account with us. If you've pointed a domain it can take up to 48 hours for your site to show at the domain. If it's been longer than that, please give me the domain and I'll be happy to see what's going on.

After logging into my page I was unable to select the URL that I want to display in a browser: www.globalmindcharter.org

Am I understanding this correctly? - That if I have this URL already registered--www.globalmindcharter.org--tha... I can get the homestead URL that was assigned to my new page, redirected to www.globalmindcharter.org so that www.globalmindcharter.org displays and not the homestead URL?
