JOB COSTING PROBLEM

i am a contractor using job costing. Invoices were posted to a customer/job and payments were applied. Now, I am being asked to change the job. I can't change the payments applied, therefore the job costing reports are not coming out correctly.

For Change Orders you have two choices depending on what version you use. In QB Pro create a separate Estimate Template for the Change Order and then Invoice directly from that. In Premier version you can add the  Change Order to the bottom of the Estimate.

This answer did not help at all. The job has already been billed and paid for. I was trying to move history from one job to another

If I understand your question, you have invoiced, received payments, and deposited them for a Customer:Job and now you need to receive the payments for a different job. You have to delete the payment from the deposit, then edit the original payment, which will include changing the customer and/or the job to apply it to, and creating an invoice for the right name/job or changing the name/job on the invoice. Then you have to re-deposit the payment. BE SURE to write down the amounts and dates of all the transactions you change in this process, and it wouldn't hurt to take screen shots (Alt+Print Screen and paste into Word or Wordpad) so you get them right when you correct them. If the deposit has been reconciled you will get a warning message when you delete it. It will mess up the opening balance on your next reconciliation, even if you check it off manually in the check register. If you have put in the amount right, you can ignore the opening balance, enter the correct closing balance, and check off your corrected deposit and reconcile it along with the ones listed on your statement. Say a little prayer, and be sure to enter the amounts right, and your account should reconcile, and your job costing reports should now be correct Let me know if I have misunderstood your question, or if you have any problems following the above, and I'll try to help. Also my email address is in my profile (click on my picture)..

Thanks for trying. I already tried to delete the deposit and got the message that it could not be deleted until the payment was edited. When I tried to edit the payment, the message was that I had to delete the deposit before I could edit the payment. This was an electronic payment and I make the entry for all electronic payments at one time at the end of the month. I was trying to delete one line out of the deposit.

GERRY123- It would have helped if you had included this new information in your original question.
