It appears that 1120, 1120S, and 1041 are not final.

You're obviously not filing 1120, 1120S or 1065s with a state.
This is killing me, almost didn't renew this year due to the late release dates. They promised to improve, they didn't.
1120/1120S are still awaiting form instruction.....we added for notifications at the forms tab specifically for this reason...
I understand if the full info is not available. The bad part is it doesn't matter when it is published. We still have to wait another week for it because Lacerte only updates once per week.
Why not check the DO NOT FILE watermark but allow the user (us) to "uncheck" so that we can print copies for clients and banks, then efile once the forms are final. We could even change the watermark to CLIENT COPY. My banker is getting 2011 S Corps from other CPAs and questioning my techoligical efficiency.
Can't do C or S corps. This is terrible. We have to wait another week?? Can we get a patch done before then?? Seriously, this is a major headache!
I almost left Lacerte this year for this and other shortcomings. This IS a major headache. It makes my tax season 2 weeks shorter than some of my colleagues in town.
I don't understand the 2 week thing. You can still prepare the returns now, and print them when they are final.
I have about 30 1120s and 1065 ready to print now. I have found I am most efficient when I finish what I start when I start it. Anyone who completes the return and prints and checks it 2 weeks later losses efficiency. I have a very efficient corporate return process/system, but it only works well when I can complete the job all at one time.
Really sorry, but Lacerte has always taken a conservative approach on this. We are not going to facilitate the printing/filing/e-filing of returns which believe could be incomplete/flawed/incorrect just because you are in "a hurry." We believe in due diligence and think you should as well. Sorry to dissapoint, but it's just the way it has always been for almost decades now. There are packages out there that just change 2010 to 2011 and publish the forms, and I'm sure they are "ready to file." They just issue a "sorry, here's the update" update if/when things should change. That might even work the majority of the time and even make "us" look bad. Sorry. Lacerte abides by a bit stricter standard and that's going to be the way it is. I wish I had a better answer, but Intuit has an INCREDIBLE relationship with the IRS and states because of our ethical standards and business policies. We will not compromise that.....
1 - No one is in "a hurry". But, we all have deadlines and every hour is critical
2 - No one is suggesting they want to file incomplete/flawed/incorrect returns
3 - No one as suggested you indicate the forms are final when they are not
4 - I'm glad you have an INCREDIBLE relationship with IRS and states. My printing a tax return for a banker shouldn't jeopardize that.
5 - I just don't understand whey this can't be done in December. I understand other company's are getting final forms approved in December
5 - FORMS are approved, Instructiions not. See above.
Wish i had a better answer for ya
Hey Lacerteguru,
I believe you are posting incorrect information. I have been using Lacerte for about 13 years. Only in the past few years have I noticed the forms being finalized this late in the year. It makes sense, since that's about the same time Lacerte customer service went down the tubes.
I suppose I am in no major hurry to get these corporate returns printed. However, I usually give my best corporate clients a completed package (W-2s, 1099s, financial statements, TAX RETURN, etc.) in January if they bring it in early. Coincidentally, that is also when I present them with the bill. I suppose I can work around this somehow, but it is just a headache and I have always felt it is tacky to present a bill when the product is not finished. Last few years my January billing has been awful.
My January billing in 2011 was the worst in 5 years. I don't bill the client untill the product is delivered so my cash flow stunk too.
I wish Lacerte woiuld strive to have INCREDIBLE relationships with their customers.
I agree that the integrity of the product is most important, but I also feel the frustration of the late form release. Workload compression is bad enough without losing January to these bottlenecks.
I would be happy if Lacerte would just agree to release forms as soon as they can and not wait for the weekly update. It may seem like a couple of days shouldn't make that much of a difference, but it really does to the preparer community.
Thanks, it looks like the 1065 is also available. I haven't found an input field for the new credit card sales line on 2011 returns. Am I just missing something?
