Can I revise a p&l template and then save it as a new stmt "template". not just  "copy" the report with a new name, I want to be able to bring the template into one report multiple times -same stmt for multiple locations in 1 report.

No.  I was never able to do this.  The closest I could get was to have one statement which I would run with a class then "move/copy" that statement which would create another page on the workbook then run again with a new class.  The result was that I would have one workbook with a statement for each class.  The problem with that approach is that the "copied" statements are static - they are not updated when you regenerate the change any parameters.  Also, I think they are fully protected so you can't even change the formatting.

I am trying to do this as well.  The "static" problem is what I am encountering.  Need help!

You can copy to a new workbook by locating where the report is saved on your computer and copying that file and pasting it.  If you don't know where the file is saved, go to the Intuit Statement Writer menu in QuickBooks, and choose "Open Existing Report."  It will show you the file path there.  You can copy and paste from the open/browse window if you want.  Anyways, it creates a second report that you can save with a new name.

I also tried the Move/Copy to make a new sheet. But, ISW does not recognize  that as a "live" statement. Instead, I have pulled in a P&L template and fixed it the way I wanted for the Cumulative. Then I went to Insert Statements to pull in the same P&L template. It will call it P&L(2) by default, but I change the sheet names to the various classes. Then I have that sheet pull in one of the classes, doing the same for each class. The aggravating part is that any fine tuning of layout that you do on the first sheet will have to be done again with each new class sheet. However, once you have it all done and saved, it should pull in live data going forward.

I would like to be able to save that first sheet that I have formatted as a template that I could insert and change class. But, I haven't found a way to do that.

Another thing I find exasperating is that I would like to have for each class a current month budget to actual and then right behind it a ytd budget to actual. But the date you choose on the report properties can only do either or. So, I end up with two separate reports - one monthly and one year-to-date

In the column properties double check the "Column Date" choices, such as:

It adds extra columns for things like

Current/Prior Quarter

Current/Prior Month

you can also insert extra columns with whatever date range you wish (i.e. year-to-date actual, year-to-date budget)

Add a Year-to-Date column in a budget to actual statement.
You may want to add a year-to-date column in a budget to actual statement. The template does not have a built in year-to-date column, so you have add it. The procedure is as follows:

Select any cell in the column before which you want to add the new column.
In the Column Properties section, click Insert Column(s).
Click QuickBooks Data - Actual or QuickBooks Data - Budget in the Type drop down box.
Select Current/Prior Year's Year-To-Date for the period.
If the year for the statement is not the current or prior year, enter the number of years back in the Show data for the year-to-date box directly under the period.
Click Refresh from QuickBooks to fill the column with data from the company file.
