Important Announcement! A planned system-wide upgrade will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend in the US (From Thurs, May 24, 2012 at 6 pm PDT thru Tues, May 29, 2012 at 5 am PDT). This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! During this time, you can shop, but can’t place orders online, activate products or update account info. We apologize for the inconvenience & thank you for patience while we improve our infrastructure to better serve you. International versions are unaffected. For more info, see our community discussion.

Is there an option to force 1040 clients to efile?

Lacerte

Is there somewhere in options to default (force) that indivdual returns have to be e-filed? A good percentage(50%) of our long-time clients were paper returns that we need to switch over.

If my post did not answer your question, get a paid Intuit employee's answer for Lacerte questions at 800-933-9999. Oh, and enjoy the elevator music while you wait.

I don't know, but how many clients do you have?  How much time would it take to get into everyone's screen 1, and check off all the possible checkboxes for "e-file the Federal, e-file the first state, e-file the 2nd state, e-file the 3rd state" and so on?

I didn't time myself, but I have about 100 clients, only about 25 of whom were e-filers before this, so I went into the other 75 and clicked all those Screen 1 checkboxes.  I don't think it took me even an hour.

Now, when my assistant helps with returns, the e-filing will be present automatically.  He'll have to key in a lot of W2 information, but at least he won't overlook that someone is now an e-filer.

Back up before it's too late. For a professional answer, call Tech Support at 1-800-933-9999 (Lacerte)(other numbers ProSeries, QB, or TurboTax). I am a volunteer, not compensated or supported by Intuit.
