is there a way to create an item to function like sales tax groups? so, customer sees 1 item on invoice, but for my purposes it break out revenue into multiple items/revenue accounts.
Yes--you can create item groups. Go to the Items List, right click - New, and select Group. Then you can specify which items you want to be in the group.

I tried this. It lists out each of the items in the group on the invoice, we dont want to do that. i want to be able to have 1 item on the invoice and have it allocated to several revenue accounts. Does that make sense?
Edit the item group and uncheck the box 'print items in group' right above where you select the items in the goup.

I tried that. I attempted to create the group and tested it on an invoice, every line item in the group showed up. I then unchecked the box and it still showed up. Is there anything else I can do?
You will see the details on the screen, but if you do a print preview or print it it should not print the item details if you uncheck the box.
