Is it safe to rename a Payroll Item?

US QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions : 11.0: Manufacturing and Wholesale

If I change the Payroll Item Name from "Hourly" to "Regular Pay", will this have any downstream consequences?

I just need to change it for some 3rd party software that will start exporting our labor timecards. It requires the name to be different. I just don't want it to [removed] up anything down stream in our reports or accounting.

It will not have any consequences down the road, IF AND ONLY IF you are just renaming the payroll item.

Technically you have to add a new payroll item and switch it to that. I created one identical and then used it for my 1.0x pay rate.
