IRS phone number
What telephone number for IRS if e-filed return is rejected stating that someone else has claimed client on their return. I have a single man, 47 yrs old and he don't know anyone that would try to claim him. Any help?

The IRS won't tell you anything. It's probably some DIYer who transposed a couple of numbers. Paper file. Advise the client to keep an eye on his finances just in case it's a case of identity theft.
There's no shortcut phone number I'm aware of. Just call the regular # and wait a long while. They will tell you to simply paper file. Later they will send a letter to each party using that SS # asking them to check to see if a mistake was made. Nothing else to do.
