Invoices won't print

US QuickBooks Pro for Windows

Vista Ultimate, Quickbooks 2009, Hp Officejet Pro 8500

Cannot print an invoice, everything was working fine for months then invoices quit printing. Everything else (estimates) work fine. I messed with it and followed advise from this site and got one invoice to print by going to the file menu, printer setup and choosing invoices in "form name" window. Worked once and now no more printing of invoices. When I hit the print button the window comes up like it was sent to the printer and then my printer beeps as it always does when it is finished print job but no printing. All this happens in one second.

Hi lightner,

I'm sorry you are experiencing such a puzzling issue. The following article will walk you through many steps to resolve printing issues. It shows you how to delete the QBPrint.QBP file, which will be recreated when you try to print. It also covers other things that can cause printing issues with QuickBooks. If you are having trouble accessing printer setup, it is most likely an installation issue.

I've done all that is suggested in the "Printing Help" article. I have no other problems with my printer in Quickbooks or any other app, the same thing occurs with the  sample company. I've renamed the Qbprint.qbp file and it never gets rewritten as far as I can tell. I've repaired the Quickbooks installation twice with no results. I've reinstalled the printer driver which are the newest on the HP site. I think I have followed all suggestions I could find on this site with no results.

HI Marty,

I wonder if it's a damaged template. Can you try switching to a default template and see if you are able to print? If so, you may have to recreate your custom template.

Yep, tried that too. I can't get the professional invoice or the service invoice to print . I've also verified data and it tells me everything is fine.

Hi Marty,

Sorry this is so tricky. Thanks for the responses. Try opening a sample company and see if you can print any invoice from there. If you can, then it is a data issue and will help us with next steps. I'll give you a wiki article that covers troubleshooting data damage.

If you can't print in the sample company either, then it is an installation issue. I know you said you tried uninstalling and re-installing. However, did you do a clean uninstall/re-install? If it does end up being the installation, I would try that.

I have tried the sample company and the invoices still won't print. I haven't done a complete and clean reinstall and I will try that next.

One thing that has me puzzled though is I don't seem to see a rewritten QBPrint.QBP file. I keep my Quickbooks company files on another hard drive and the only instance of the file is in a folder Quickbooks 2009/Restored"CompanyName"/Printer Settings (found with a advanced search function w/ the hidden files checked) and I renamed the file with a .old but it never seems to be rewritten. I am wondering if I have found the correct file or if it exists. Could this be a problem?

I will delete all instances of the company files on the computer and reinstall Quickbooks and see what happens.

Ok, I uninstalled Quickbooks 2009 through the control panel. Deleted my company files and deleted the remaining Intuit/Quickbooks 2009 folder with some residual files, rebooted the computer, reinstalled Quickbooks 2009 and updated, and then opened company files from a backup copy and installed company files to a second hard drive and I still can't print invoices. Exact same results, it shows the file was sent to printer and printer beeps as if it was finished but no invoice of any kind. It will print an estimate or a report. Don't use and haven't tried anything else.

I am having the same problem as lightner, except i can not print purchase orders. I installed a new printer last night( hp officejet Pro 8500). Everything else prints

Hey lightner,

Is your printer attached to the Vista computer, or to another one in the office? If it is attached to another computer, check that computer for the QBPrint.QBP file.  That could explain why uninstalling and reinstalling isn't helping the issue.

The printer is a network printer but the only computer connected to the network at this time is the Vista through a DSL modem/router. I have other OS's on several HD's but the only instance of the QBPrint.QBP file is in the company folder that I can find plus a couple were in the recycle bin from previous attempts to fix the problem that I have been deleted.

I'm thinking I haven't found the proper file but don't know where else to look. My searches are everything which has covered all hard drives.

Amy,

I spent a good bit of time cleaning up all of my operating system's files and deleted everything Quickbooks related and did another advanced search and got one hit for the QBPrint file and renamed it and everything is working now. Can't figure out what I was doing to not have it come up the many previous searches but that seems to be how computers are for the less experienced.

I will say this as a possible problem I committed. When searching in the "Start" button I clicked search everywhere and the advanced and under the location window I clicked everywhere again and the checked the "Included non-index, hidden and system files" and got 41 hits many seemed to be recycle recover files but not the file I needed. The last search I clicked everywhere , advanced and left location as Indexed Locations and clicked "Included non-index, hidden and system files" and got one hit and it was my file.
