inventory use for unique items
Can inventory inPOS coupled with quckbooks pro be used for a store in which each item is unique and where there is no desire for cost averaging?

QuickBooks Point of Sale and QuickBooks Pro do not share an item list, so you would put each unique item in POS and then POS would send over the income and cogs information to QB when the item is sold.
So even if in same department,in POS each item will be listedand treated separately, and there will be no cost of goods averaging (as each item is unique)? Many thanks.
COGS will be calculated by POS as each item is sold, and an entry will be sent to QB. The entries will total up in the QB account(s).
As far as the unique aspect, if each unique item is created in the POSsystem with an assigned cost and sold only once, then there is no opportunity for averaging of the cost for the item.
Does this help? If not, ask more questions...
Can you elaborate on what you mean by coupled? Traditionally, When POS and QB are integrated, Point of Sale takes over the tracking of individual items. If each set of items are seperate, and there are some you want to have available in POS and some you want available in QB, you can have unique items in each program--I would recommend talking to an accountant though about how best to track that, perhaps separate inventory assets and COGS accounts for items that are in POS and items that are in QB.
However, If you are asking if you can see the same exact item list in QB as you do in POS, unfortunately, that is not possible--POS will not be keep track of unique item properties and share it with your QuickBooks item list.
Hope this helps!
