How do I record the purchase of an inventory item with petty cash and increase the inventory qty on hand. I am using QB Pro 2009

The solution
You can't do it directly through Petty Cash there needs to be an invoice. Create a vendor invoice for the purchase of the inventory item, then purchase the item using the petty cash bank account.
