getting message Integer Overflow when entering a customer name on a sales receipt. Customer name cannot be entered. using an old 4.0
I am having the same problem, it is a nightmare, even when I search for a product it says integer overflow. Please assist.
I'm having the same problem when trying to search for a product. Using version 4.0 too. The problem only just started happening when the number of products in my database reached above around 16,500. The problem only occurs when I search for products using certain words or certain number of words, I haven't yet figured out what triggers the error. It's fine when I enter the product code directly. Have not had problem with customer name yet, but maybe my customer database is still small with only around 2,000 names?
Anybody know how to solve the problem, perhaps by adding more memory to the computer?
Adding more memory to the computer likely won't help - integer overflow sounds like a problem with the programming .
More specifically, in geek-speak, it means that somehow when you're adding the customer name, the interworkings of the program (value assignment to variables, etc) are causing a size limit to be exceeded. How many customers do you have? Saved sales receipts? Not sure of the number limitations on those, if any, but it may help an Intuit pro figure out the issue - assuming they're still versed on 4.0
I am still having the same issue and it seems to be getting worse. I cannot figure out what caused it. Anyone else have the same problem?
So does any Intuit Pro have any plausible answers? I'm starting to get integer overflow messages when typing just two characters into the Customer field on a new sales receipt. It's starting to get really annoying. Someone please help.
One more piece of clue: when the integer overflow message comes up, if you log out and log back in again, the message SOMETIMES goes away with the same exact search terms, until it comes back again. Sometimes one would have to log out and back in several times before the message will go away.
Strange that no one using 4.0 has experienced the problem before and only recently multiple people started to have the same problem. For my computers, I have disabled Windows Auto Update feature so the problem could not be caused by any badly programmed Windows Update patch.
My integer overflow problem is getting worse, you are right when you log in and log out it sometimes goes away typing in the same thing. I tried backing up the data and completely reinstalling it on a new computer with XP pro. I did a restore with the data taken over and it still gives me the same integer overflow error, so it is something in the data. It is very strange that no one has ever had this problem until recently. Please help.
I'm also having the same problem but only when I search for a product, I am using version 4.0. The problem started on Wednesday 23rd when I had a temporary staff running my shop. I only have 2600 different products in my database, with about 14000 units on hand. My shop is not connected to the internet and I only ever back up from the shop computer NOT restore, so the problem started internally, within itself.
Does Intuit have a solution?
The following www is offering a solution, but not sure why I should have to pay for it ........ http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Industry_Specific/Financial/QuickBooks/Q_24999654.html
It's a wonder that many people started having the same problem only just recently whereas there was no such error recorded in Intuit Community prior to this thread. So let's maybe collect some basic data here and see if we can figure out the probable cause. I suggest the following, please add your info:
QBPOS Version: 4.0
Windows: XP Pro SP2
Inventory Count: 16,800
Sales History Count: 66,000+
Customer List: 2,000+
Purchase Order Count: 2,000+
Receiving History Count: 2,600+
Held Receipts Count: Less than 20
Date Started Having Problem: Second or Third Week of December
The problem seems to be getting worse for me too. I used to encounter it when using multi-word search terms only, but now some single word search terms will also trigger it. Note that not all multi-word search terms trigger the error. Seems to me that, if the search result should contain more than one product, then the error will likely occur. The error hasn't come up for any search terms that yield only a single result. I guess that's why typing in the product Item ID still works without error.
Really wish there was a way to make this error go away though.
HI All,
I apologize that so many of you have had the Integer Overflow message lately. As many of you know, V4 is no longer supported so even if this is an emerging issue, it will not be fixed by an update. POS does not have list limitations which means that you can have as many items, customers, etc, as you want without reaching a number limit. With that said, please try the following:
1. Open practice mode with a copy of your current file.
2. Proceed with operation that generates Integer Overflow message.
3. If you get the message, there is no fix.
4. If you do not get the message, close practice mode and return to file.
5. Make a backup
6. Create a new company file.
7. Restore back.
I really hope this works. If so please come back and let us all know. If you get something else, let us know too, we may be able to fix this together.
Thanks!
Hi, practice mode did not produce any integer overflow errors. What do you mean by create a new company file.
I am getting the same integer overflow message in practice mode.
Any idea of the cause of this after years of working fine?
Coming up on 2010 perhap..s the date changes?
We have.already opened a new company file twice both times inadvertently. Could that be the problem? Worked fine for 6 months.
Also there is a workaround for the customer name. We click the magnifying glass next to the customer entry field and let the window open up. From there we can search for customer.
Practice mode still produced the same error for me. I guess I'm out of luck. Just out of curiosity though, what would be the process to create a new company file using a backup copy under a multistore scenario? I might give it a try regardless. Thanks.
P.S.: Searching for customer by first clicking the magnifying glass option still produced the integer overflow error for me.
I still think the problem is related to internal QBPOS programming that's triggered by an external event, although on my end I can rule out Windows Update (switched off) and Windows date and time (manually changed it to previous date when the system was working).
Hello Hello
Sorry that some of you still get the message. To create a new company file go to File>Company data>New. Name your file something different than your current file. Then restore your backup to the file you just created.
I am uncertain of what could be causing this but I am siding with he1008. It is likely an update of some kind that is triggering the message in POS.
Thank you for posting your findings, please continue to do so.
Iram
I tried everything you said and nothing works. In practice mode there is no errors. When I create a new company company everything is fine until I copy over the backup. So there must be something in the restore.
ANSWER
This is what i did to solve the integer overflow problem..If you are OK with it, try it. Its very helpful. follow the steps bellow'
1. Firstly, make a backup of your data.
2. Extract your data to excel sheet.
3. copy extracted data to Quickbooks Import Template and edit it accordingly.( make sure all the data is in their right columns and rows)
4. Uninstall quickbooks completely by removing even its registry forders then make a clean and new installation of quickbooks if you still have a copy.
5. Import the extracted and well edited template back in to quickbooks.
You are good to go.
NB: The only disadvantage is you will not be able to view your history records but for that you can refer to the backup copy.
Hope you will find this helpfull.
