Inserting your signature in a Pro Series letter

Has anyone been able to insert a graphic of your signature into a Pro Series letter?I have a graphics file of my signature. I can insert this in Microsoft Word and it prints looking more or less as if the letter was hand signed. When I use "Insert, Picture" when working on the Standard Organizer letter, the graphic inserts and except for size, looks fine on the screen even when viewed on screen as a pdf. However, when I print the page containing the signature graphic, the signature itself looks OK but the surrounding white area contain a pattern of dots.I can resize the graphic but its not helpful unless I can also make the white space in the graphic print as blank rather than as dots.Technical support was unable to help with this. Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

Mel, I include my signature every year on the cover letter for the organizers. You just have to make sure your signature .jpg is clear enough. Use your drawing program to clean up the background to be pure white. Your sig should also be dark enough. You may need to re-scan it.

Thanks Daniel. I noticed that you use a jpg. I'll create a new scan and will try to clean up the background to be pure white. I suspect that what I've got is a transparent background right now. That may be the problem.

I scanned in and saved two new versions of my signature, one jpg and the other bmp. Both files print cleanly in Word with no stray material in the white space of the graphic.

In Pro Series, every portion of the background is filled with neatly arranged small dots.

What did you use to "clean up" the file?

I used Print Artist or another program to edit, make the background lighter or the contrast better. Then I saved it as a .jpg. It works fine, for me.

Interesting. I had someone work on my signature file using Photo Shop. He said that the background was pure white. That's how it looked when I inserted the graphic in Word and in Pro Series. When I printed the graphic, however, it had dots all through the white area. The same graphic prints just fine in Microsoft Word.

I notice that you said you saved it as a jpg. What format was it in when you first acquired it. I've been scanning it and saving it directly into jpg and bmp file types in an attempt to get the right look. Perhaps I need to first save it in some other format and then convert it to jpg like you apparently did.

Thanks for providing what information you could Daniel. I believe that my easiest route is to export the contact information and then do the organizer and engagement letters from within Word where I have a signature that prints perfectly.

For some reason, there is a huge difference in how the Pro Series editor handles graphics from the way they are treated by Microsoft Word. Graphics are much larger less realistic looking when I insert them in Pro Series. I also found that I got different results when the same graphic was printed to a pdf printer and then to a laser, directly to a laser printer and directly to an ink jet printer. Obviously, there is something going on at the printer driver level that is way beyond my comprehension.

I have never tried to use a graphic of my signature. I got my signature made into a True Type font back in the early 1990's. I have used it in ProSeries in the old DOS program and in the Windows version. It works perfectly. If you want any information about where to get your signature made into a True Type font let me know.

Sounds like this might be something I'd like to investigate. Where can you have your signature converted into True Type font?

Thanks.

Here is the link to the web site of the company that I had my signature made into a True Type Font over ten years ago. Good Luck.
