There is a new feature in the program that automatically checks if Internet Updates are available. Each time the program opens, it attempts to connect to the Internet to perform the check. It sounds like the program is unable to connect for some reason, hence the error message. If you are able to bypass the error message and get into the program:
1. Go to the Main Menu, and select System Characteristics.
2. Switch to the Updates tab.
3. Uncheck 'Automatic Check for Updates'.
4. Click Apply.
This should eliminate the error message.
Mel Thanks for your help. My easyact is updating properly and does not give me any problems, however when we open the IRS program we get that error message and if we click ok it lets us in the program. If I try to do a manual internet update it gives me the same message. Just was wondering if version 2008.1.01 is the latest and is my IRS program updater corrupt. Thank you for your help.
Ok, that gives me more information to go on. Let me investigate further and get back to you.
It's curious that you are able to download the EasyACCT updates but not the Information Return System (IRS) updates. It makes me believe the Shared Download Paths are different, because both programs check for updates in the same manner. Here are more troubleshooting steps to follow (this assumes the programs are on the same computer):
In EasyACCT:
1. From the Company Selection screen, go to System, System Characteristics.
2. On the Main tab, verify the drive indicated in the Path for System Data.
3. Switch to the Updates tab and verify the drive in the Shared Download Path field.
4. Are the drives the same?
In IRS:
1. At the Main Menu, select System Characteristics and switch to the Updates tab.
2. Verify the drive in the Shared Download Path.
3. If the drive in the Shared Download Path is different than the one indicated for EasyACCT, change the drive in IRS so that it matches the one in EasyACCT.
If the Shared Download Paths are the same, try completely uninstalling the IRS program (be sure to retain the data directories when prompted) and reinstalling from CD.
At this time there are no other reports of this error, so please report back and let me know whether this worked for you!
