Information in Return Disappearing

I have had several returns in which I have entered data and when I go back to the client all the information that was entered is gone. I am back to the client with only the transfered data. I don't know where the data is disappearing. I don't know if it is possible to recover it. I have had to go back and reenter all current year data again. Is anyone else having this problem?

I had the same problem. I was entering chartable donations on sch A and my computer locked up. I had to restart. Some of the data as still there. I entered the chartable donations again, same thing but this time when I restarted all I had was the transfered information. Took me an hour to re-enter everything for that client. Have no idea what is going on, and I never found a way to restore it.

I think that with all the problems this year that I am having that I will look for something else next year. Tech support will keep yo on the phone for hours and never resolve the issue. I am frustrated that I paid $600 for a program that messes up as much as this one does.

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM FOR 2002-2007. I HAVE USED PROSERIES SINCE COMPUTERS AND TAX SOFTWARE BEGAN, AND SOMEHOW SUPPORT HELPED ME RESTORE 1 CLIENT IN 2007, BUT I NEED TO RESTORE ALL OF 2006 TO TRANSFER TO 2007 OR REENTER ALL DATA FROM HARD COPIES, SOME ITEMS I DID NOR PRINT, LIKE DEPRECIATION AND NOL DATA, WHICH I NEED TO DO 2007-AM I SUPPOSED TO ASK MY CLIENTS FOR PRIOR YEAR DATA THAT SHOULD BE SAVED? THERE MUST BE SOME WAY TO RECOVER THESE ITEMS, HENCE THE "RESTORE COMMAND". I CAN'T USE IT BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHERE THE FILES ARE WHEN IT ASKS FOR SOURCE DIRECTORY-I SAVED FROM AUTOMATIC SAVE. ANY HELP OUT THERE?

The files are saved in a file called 06Data which is found under Prowin06 directory. The 2007 files are filed in 07Data in the Prowin07
directory. I back up this file folder nightly on a zip drive.

I DON'T BACKUP EVERY NITE, BUT ALL PRIOR YEAR RETURNS HAVE NO DATA, AND 2007 SEEMS TO LOSE DATA EVEN AFTER I HAVE THE PROGRAM SET TO AUTO RECOVER EVERY 3 MINUTES. IF THE FILES ARE SAVED, WHERE ARE THEY-NOT IN THE DATA FOLDER!!? I SPENT 8 HOURS ($5000) OF MY TIME TRYING TO FIND WHAT I'VE ALREADY DONE, 2 HOURS MORE ON PHONE WITH SUPPORT-NO HELP, 3 HOURS WAITING FOR ONLINE SUPPORT CHAT, ALL ABOVE THE FIRST 8 HOURS. SO NOW I AM RE ENTERING ALL THE DATA AGAIN, BUT NOW I'M IN THE LOSE MONEY MODE, WITH NO PROSERIES HELP. ANYBODY PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bres:

Several things. First, remove the caps lock. When you type in all caps it is like shouting. You do not want to shout at someone when they are trying to help you.

Did you look the data folder that was shown above? You will find the files in those folders. Try and rebuild your homebase.

Let us know if this does not help.

Dusty

Sorry for yelling, but frustration had(s) set in and at this time, I am going to lose a lot of money. I did refer to the data folders, and the data I need is not there. Any other ideas wouls be greatly appreciated. THANKS, and please forgive my yelling, but also please understand my situation and I wasn't thinking except about why the data was lost after my son was on myspace and yahoo im, and I can't discuss this with my wife(family cmptr geek) as son does no wrong, unless it's her machine. In other words, my problems all started the day after my son was on my space.
THANKS,
BRES

It doesn't sound like a software problem. Restore computer to earlier date before son got on yahoo. This will at least stop virus he loaded from deleting any more data files. If data doesn't show up yet, then you need to take computer to computer repairman and tell them to restore and recover hard drive. Tell repairman where the data should be (in the data file). The files are probably not purged but simply hidden on your hard drive and are labled as not readable.
