This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! We apologize for the inconvenience & thank you for patience while we improve our infrastructure to better serve you. International versions are unaffected. Income for California Medi-Cal

ProLine Tax Online

Here is the situation -

Client wages - 9k (Client is a member of CALIFORNIA MEDI-CAL PROGRAM)

Files MFJ and has a child who is a full time student

Child net scholarship - 2k (20k grants - 16k tuition - 2k books and supplies)

AGI = 9k + 2k = 11k

Earned Income = 9k

What income is considered by California Medi-cal as the income of this client? Is it Earned Income or AGI?

Appreicate if you can provide an answer or a link to the relevant resource online.

Thank you.

 Child's taxable scholarship goes on child's return, not parent's.

If I wanted phone calls, my phone number would be in my profile. If you have a question, post it in the applicable forum.

 Thanks for your response.

Even if the child is under 21?

 Child's income never goes on the parent's return. Kiddie Tax is a way to *pay the tax* (not report the income) with the parent's return if all the kid has is interest and dividends, but the income is always the child's, and can always be reported on the child's return.

 Thanks for the prompt response.

I already filed the return yesterday with the child income added to the parents income.

Do I have to amend it now?

 If there's any detriment to the client in leaving it as is, then yes.
