In setting up a return for a pilot who works abroad where do I enter the MEI rate?

How do I enter the MEI rate? Does it go on 2106 or directly onto schedule A?

I know how to find the correct figure I just am not sure where to put it on the return itself.

Thanks!

You need to input it on form 2106 to insure that the appropriate DOT amt for pilots is calculated based upon the percentage allowed which is 80% for pilots, this will then flow over to Schedule A

Mt Juliet:  I still don't get it.  I'm using the State Department MEI rates...I'm looking at the form and I see the box to check for DOT...do I then enter the total per diem from the MEI on line B in the DOT smart worksheet? or line D?  or not there at all...I then have to take that figure and sort out how much of it was excluded on 2555 using the 2555 deduction worksheet.   Also are you saying that he will only get 80% of the per diem rate?  (here less b/c of the 2555 issue, but just ignore that part.  I can sort that later.  Thanks!

you would enter the amount on Line A or the smart worksheet to obtain the 80%, do not use line B as this is for MEI not covered by DOT regs
