Important Announcement! A planned system-wide upgrade will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend in the US (From Thurs, May 24, 2012 at 6 pm PDT thru Tues, May 29, 2012 at 5 am PDT). This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! During this time, you can shop, but can’t place orders online, activate products or update account info. We apologize for the inconvenience & thank you for patience while we improve our infrastructure to better serve you. International versions are unaffected. For more info, see our community discussion.

I need to import our Vendors, Customers, Employees, & Chart of Accounts (basically everything except transactions) from our previous Quick Books records. How do I do this?

The solution

To export or import a list of vendor, customer, employees etc to a new company file: Steps

  1. Open and restore a backup copy of the old company file that has the list that needs to be transferred to a new company file.
  2. Choose File > Utilities (these needs to done in old Quickbooks company)
  3. Choose Export > Lists to IIF files. (Note: IIF files are the file types QuickBooks can import and export).
  4. Mark all the lists, vendor, customer, chart of account Employee List etc  and click OK. Choose the location in the computer where you want to save the list.
Note: The desktop is recommended so it is not difficult locating the files when importing.
  5. Open the new company file where you want the list.
  6. Choose File > Utilities
  7. Click Import. Click IIF Files. Locate the IFF file that you have saved earlier. Click Open. You are prompted if these list has been restored.
  8. Open the vendor center, customer Center, or employee center etc click edit if you need to make any changes.  (especially check the Employee Information window, click Change Tabs. In Payroll and Compensation Info, enter the necessary information if needed).

Good luck, it this is the answer, please click solved

Hope this helps. If so please mark solved. Or if you like it-then click thumbs up. Thanks
