Important information concerning emailing within QuickBooks 2010

This topic of discussion- emailing within QuickBooks 2010 is not working- has been surfacing on the community a lot lately. You will need to use MS Outlook. QuickBooks is compatible with and tested with Microsoft Outlook. If you choose to use another email service, you may have to print your invoices to PDF and attach them using your email software.

*Note, I have seen some users use Microsoft Outlook Express with success as well.

Using Thunderbird with QuickBooks *upated information*

Using Thunderbird with QuickBooks *updated information*
We have found a potential solution that may enable users to regain compatibility between Thunderbird email client and QuickBooks again. Please see use the following FAQ to guide you through the setup. To help us understand the success of this workaround, please feel free to leave your feedback in relation to the solution provided below.

How do I enable MAPI for Thunderbird Email Client so I can use it to email invoices from QuickBooks?

Please note: Thunderbird is not made by or supported by Intuit. If you are having issues with Thunderbird, please visit the Mozilla support site.

Eric with Qb 2010 Outlook express does work, I have used this with no problems from Xp pro opsys. So what Mapi email programs work with WIn 7 which is what most posts are about.

Is Outlook express available as a download for Win7?

Hi Eric,

Quickbooks 2010 is NOT compatible with Windows 7. Do you want me to repeat that Quickbooks 2010 is NOT compatible with Windows 7?

Why? Because in your own Windows 7 FAQ you state that Windows Live Mail is the replacement for Microsoft Outlook Express in Windows 7 and Quickbooks doesn't work with it!

Therefore, by Iniuit's own admission Quickbooks 2010 is not compatible with Windows 7 and you can not email from Quickbooks with Windows 7.

So, when are you going to be Windows 7 compatible as I bought the software after being told by your support to upgrade to this version for Windows 7.

J.

Looks like there are no more downloads for Outlook Express...(as far as I can see)

Outlook Express has been replaced by Windows Mail, which in return has been upgraded to Windows Live Mail.

But this is completely unacceptable. We've been using Thunderbird with QB for the past 5 years at least with no problems. 2010 seems to have been locked down to only use Microsoft email clients. I see from another Intuit forum that this caused a storm of protest in the US and Canada, and in the Canadian version it was fixed months ago.

There is absolutely no reason why QB can't be configured to use the default mail client since that's exactly what it has been doing for the last several versions.

In order to switch our mail client to Outlook we'd need to make major changes to our company's software setup.

We pay for QB on a monthly subscription basis and put our trust in Intuit to continue to develop the program in a sensible way that isn't going to involve us jumping through hoops with every upgrade.

Sorry but this is not completely true. Your 2010 version is not compatible with Outlook 2010 or Windows Live Mail. Outlook Express was replaced by Microsoft in Vista, in other words the last time it was available was for the XP OS. So basically when we are forced to upgrade to keep payroll up to date and supposedly become compatible with Win 7, we are also forced to loose useful functions like emailing directly from QB unless we stay with Office 2007 and don't even think about a 64bit version. When this information comes from an Intuit Support Operations Analyst it is pathetic. TRY USING or better still TESTING YOUR OWN SOFTWARE, before commenting on it !!!

Agreed.   Simply put QUICKBOOKS 2010 IS NOT WINDOWS 7 COMPATIBLE.

Unfortunately you're now like I am stuck with software that doesn't work correctly and realistically the only option is to buy an alternative accountancy package, after having already bought this one.   Makes you wish you had just bought the other in the first place!

Very disappointed by Intuit.

Thanks for your hardwork in Intuit. I have used other programmes  like Sage and Office Accounting and recently started Quickbooks and have been very impressed by the programme and the level of community support. Well done.

Am however concerned that most users currently or potentially will be using windows live mail (and not outlook express which is well out of date) and more and more are using office 10 suite and windows 7/ 64 bit systems.  Most frustrations have been with incompatibility with these Also, some things can be easier like excel export and import back of quickbook transactionsand importing bank statements from HSBC and other banks.
. It sometimes mean you have to key in hundreds/thousands of transactions manually. Could we improve this bit in upgrades or so? I use accountant version (premier!)

I think you miss the point

It is quite apparent that QB in the UK does NOT work with Outlook 2010 - there have been changes in Outlook 2010 which stop it working.

Similarly you mention connecting to HSBC - well I'm sorry but in the UK you can't do that either since HSBC banking in the UK do not make the correct file available,

So please don't accuse us all of using out of data software

thanks kimblebear, I assume you didnt read the response well.

My posting was not one of those moaning about QB. Rather, its a suggestion for improvement and to fix bugs. If Microsoft changed something in Outlook, Quickbooks should upgrade its program to upgrade compatibility. Ability to import transactions is non-negotiable at all. Its the most significant potentially most time wasting bug. If you have to key in tens of thousands of transactions manually you may as well get another program as the cost of doing that for weeks and months cannot be justified well with a basic import facility (which Quickbooks claimed was in existence) you could all get it done in minutes/hours.

ChancelleurAccounting:

I think everybody here is just as frustrated at yourself that features we've been sold on aren't working.   It's simply fraud by Intuit to state it's Windows 7 compatible when you can't email using the Windows 7 program, Windows Live Mail.   Remember too that Outlook is an additional program you've got to buy.   It's not standard in Windows 7.

While you yourself are new to Quickbooks, please do also remember that those commenting here have probably been using Qucikbooks for many years.   I've certainly have, and for all those years been able to email invoices and POs directly from Quickbooks.   Now I can't.   Can you imagine how much that frustrates me?   How much extra work that's creating?

In short Quckbooks, give us a program that works. Do it quickly and get it working with whatever email we want to use or at least the basic windows standard live mail. Maybe the next time you charge us for an upgrade to fix the previous version you can get the new version to work without the need to be fixed .

Whilst everything that has gone on above is true, stop wingeing and just print whatever you need to email as a pdf file (free with eg Cutepdf) to your desktop and attach it to your email.  In some ways this is better and quicker than QB's previous way of working anyway.

ayjay3, don't be so pathetic! You have purchased a software that doesnt work the way it should (and it's hardly cheap) and you won't even try to get it fixed but go plodding along finding lengthy and backwards ways around things! Fine, those solutions may be the only way for now but i for one am not going to just accept the fact that QuickBooks should have sorted this out ages ago!!

At least I would like to be able to save the invoice as PDF file and then attach it to an email which would work for me and not for other but no option is available, and Intuit is just asking all to buy new updated versions every year ... BLEAH!

@ayjay3

The problem is that when you have lots of invoices to send you may end up sending one to the wrong email address.

Why buy Quickbooks at all when you could do everything by pen and paper?

I can also assure you that printing out to PDF and then trying to find it on a Windows 7 machine isn't quick.   Previously it was very easy tell QB to email and it took the address from the company information and that was it.   You're now suggesting printing to a file, find that file, email using Windows Live Mail and then having to cut and paste the email address from the company information in QB's company information.   How could that be quicker and easier?   Are you mad?

Intuit have committed fraud by stating QB 2010 is Windows 7 compatible when it simply doesn't work as advertised.   Emailing invoices etc is a stated feature of QB 2010 and it doesn't work.   So, if it is fixed in QB 2011 will we all be receiving a free copy or expect to pay again?

I am using Quickbooks 2010 Pro and Outlook 2010 and I am unable to email PDF files within Quickbooks.

I know I can "print" to a PDF form (after downloading a different PDF creator because the one shipped with QB doesn't work) and then email that from outside QB.

When will this problem be fixed in the UK Quickbooks 2010?

Heres the link to the fix. Quickbooks 2010->send-> Outlook 2010

I got support from inuit a few months or so back. Try the instructions they gave me. Its worked every time i have installed it on both machines. Good luck

To put a conclusion on this, Intuit has already recognised the concerns of users. I am sure they will apologise for the inconvenience. As for me, despite all the above, my thumbs up still goes to Quickbooks for such a good, user friendly programme.  You can bypass the emailing problem by saving to desktop and sending as a normal attachment.

You can overcome pdf programme by downloading cute pdf and deleting the intuit pdf. You can achieve office compatibility by exporting first to csv and then save as excel.

The only thing difficult to bypass is the inability to import bank transactions, and that means days and months of manual input which is very inefficient.

If this response was helpful or answers your question please mark as "helpful" or "answered my question". This closes your question. Or ask for more help. Regards,
