Important Announcement! A planned system-wide upgrade will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend in the US (From Thurs, May 24, 2012 at 6 pm PDT thru Tues, May 29, 2012 at 5 am PDT). This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! During this time, you can shop, but can’t place orders online, activate products or update account info. We apologize for the inconvenience & thank you for patience while we improve our infrastructure to better serve you. International versions are unaffected. For more info, see our community discussion.

Important information about VAT improvements

In response to feedback from our customers, we released the QuickBooks 2008 R8 product update in June 2008. This update includes a number of important enhancements that will help you to get the most from your software, such as:
  • VAT Rounding: Rounding behaviour has been improved
  • Reconcile: You can now sort by date, cheque number, payee, and account in the
    Reconcile window
  • Customised Templates Library: Download pre-customised Invoice and other Sales
  • Form templates directly into QuickBooks
  • File VAT: The File VAT process is faster and includes progress bar improvements to
    better report status during filing.
  • VAT Reports: You can modify and sort various VAT reports by "Filed Date".
Click here for more QuickBooks 2008 resources, including walkthroughs of upgrading to QuickBooks 2008 and an explanation of using VAT.

In addition the full list of the R8 fixes is here, in case you want to refer to it: http://knowledgebase.quickbooks.co.uk

QuickBooks will automatically download this update for you as long as you have enabled automatic updates. Alternatively, the update is available to manually download from the Product Updates (http://quickbooks.intuit.co.uk...) section of the QuickBooks web site.

Please contact Intuit UK for any questions.

Got to be honest I think QuickBooks needs to listen very seriously to it's users, the new VAT system is extremely poor and in accrual accounting the new system is very bad news compared with it's predecessors

I agree with the previous poster.
Regardless of what Intuit say the vat reporting is very poor.
Intuit are not listening to their users or professional advisors.
We have used QB for over 10 years and have been a professional advisor since the programme was bought out.
We are now looking at other software as we cannot recommend QB2008 to our users.
Very sad.
