Hurricane Irene - Has IRS extended efiling from 10-15-11 until 10-31-11?

Dear Skylane,
Thank you for your response. I had already reviewed that IRS information and it does not answer my question. We know the date is extended for personal returns until October 31 however can they still be electronically transmitted or do they have to be printed and mailed? Unless that information is located on that page your hypertext referred to, the question is still unsolved.
Thank you,
Agent 1040

IRS agent said they received no notifications that will extend efile date past 10/15
They will have to be manually filed.
Love the new flashy plane you got yourself Skylane. Did you trade the old one even up or did you have to come up with some extra cash to make the switch.
If you take a closer look at who's got the wheel, you'd be even more impressed. But I guess non-trolls don't notice such details.
Sorry, to dissappoint, but I do have an eye for details and was under the belief that a troll had the controls of that rig.
@IRMN That was aimed at you. Short life as a troll. I guess the rigors are too much for you and you prefer anvils.
Short is the crux of the matter. I was too short to be able to hold up my "help" sign so I had to go back my muscular self.
I rented the plane and hired the pilot to take me to the party the other day... not only did I get there after all the wine was gone but he stole my flag when he took off...
Since October 15th is on a Saturday, the filing deadline is Monday, October 17th. Although, I wouldn't wait that late usless I absolutely have to.

BTW, this is for elelctronic filing. You can mail returns at any time.
Thank you for the reply Lisa. The question was really a two-part question. Did the IRS extend the -file cutoff for personal returns to the extended due date to 10-31-11 for those in the applicable areas. Also, if the IRS had done so, did Pro-Series have any provisions to do so also. I could not find a definitive answer anywhere - on ProSeries or the IRS. On person answered that an IRS agent told them no e-filing was extended - not sure that is considered an official answer.
Thank you.

From a google search, read down twoards the bottom of the article:
http://www.atxcommunity.com/topic/9639-hurricane-irene-tax-deadlines-extended/
That should be towards not twoards. This is what Phoebe has been saying all along.
Thank you MOJOCPA.
The article you referenced was actually the most direct answer I have seen in writing and authored clearly by a responsible party that specifically asked the "IRS agency" this question. I appreciate you sending that information as it truly puts this matter to rest. Skylane said he spoke to an IRS agent and was told no e-file would be available for individual returns beyond October 17, 2011.
As an aside, I never understood why the IRS allows e-filing of "entity" returns beyond the due date, but shuts down e-filing for personal returns.
Thank you again.

You are welcome. The reason for the extended e-file for the entities is that they are on MEF while the Lacerte and PS filed returns for individuals are on the old legacy system yet..
mojo is correct about the MEF system. They're transitioning off the old Legacy system and it should be complete within the next couple years. Then we'll be able to file late returns and even amended ones. And we'll be able to include attachments as we can with the business returns.
Amy or Lisa, maybe the link above should be tacked or hammered or whatever you call it to the top of both the Lacerte and PS site for the next month or so. Just a suggestion.
I feel better about the response with Mojo's link... really reluctant to trust anything an IRS agent says
