How to turn off auto data recovery (ADR)
I recovered a file and since then every time I backup, the system creates a new folder with my QB files that have an extension of ADR. I have no need for this huge file. How do I stop QB from creating this?

Hi Innovate,
ADR (Auto Data Recovery) is a new feature available in QuickBooks 20011 R6 onwards that help to provide a strong data recovery in case of data loss or corruption. Refer to the link below for more information.

QuickBooks don;t make these ADR files everytime you backup but it is determined internally.
How big is your file size?
The file size is about 230MB.
I backup every time I exit - I've been doing this for 8 years and never had a problem. I had to recover from my backup and ever since then, QB keeps creating a folder and replicating my .QBW file into this folder (in addition to my backup). It's very annoying and it slows my backup. I have absolutely no need for the .ADR file and don't want QB to keep creating this. How can I stop QB from creating this folder and associated files?
Innovate - One more question:
Can you delete these ADR files and immediately then try creating your backup? You will see that QuickBooks will not create these ADR files and it has no linkage with Backup process. Backup process will continue. Check that and see if that made any difference.
Slow backup can be due to several reasons:
a) Your file size is 230MB.
b) By default, QuickBooks does "full data verification" before backup - This takes lot of time. Changing the option to "no verification" or "partical verification" can increase the backup time (though full verification is always recommended)
I was able to delete the files in the ADR folder before I executed the backup. I also deleted the ADR folder. However, every time I load up QB, it creates a new ADR folder. Is this standard ... does QB now create this folder whenever QB is loaded (if it does not exist)?
Why was it creating files in this folder? Will it create files in this folder going forward? This is not the first time I've deleted this folder & files. It seems to randomly create them...
You cannot turn this feature off as it stands now. The ADR folder and contents will be created automatically, deleting it won't do any good. It isn't created randomly - if the folder and files don't exist, it should show up after you have had your QuickBooks file open for about an hour (and the data integrity is OK).
I'll have a blog article about this within a week, based on an interview I just did with the project manager.
Is there at least a way to schedule ADR so it runs at certain times of the day? ADR is running everyday at 11 AM and it makes quickbooks / the computer run slow while it is running. It wouldn't a problem if it always ran after business hours (it also seems to run at 10 pm every day wich is fine since it is after hours).
Good question! Unfortunately, I don't have an answer at this time. I'll see if I can find out
