QuickBooks Canada : Pro 2012

My service is HST-exempt. How do I remove sales tax line from showing up on invoices?

Are you registered for HST? If you are registered then you must show your service as HST exempt when you print an invoice.

If you are not registered then you can turn off all HST functions by going to Edit - Preferences - Sales Tax.

Hi there,

Thanks. I'm not registered for HST (but also provide services that are exempt from HST).

Under Edit Preferences - Sales Tax, I have everything turned off - including where it says, "do you charge sales tax?". However, on the invoice/receipt, a line still shows up tat says "sales tax 0.00'. Any ideas if that line can be removed or edited to simply say the above services are HST exempt?"

Thanks.

I am not sure what that is about. When I say I do not charge sale on mine, nothing shows up on the invoice involving tax.

Sounds as though one of the sales tax fields in the footer has been selected.

Edit the template footer.

Hi there,

Thanks for the suggestion. In the footer field, everything is deselected except 'total" and "customer message". The footer field doesn't show an option referring to sales tax. I've tried to find one -- to see if I could de-select it -- any other ideas of where it might be or what I'm missing? What might be a fix?

I appreciate the input.

Try the Layout Designer.
If there is a sales tax field, right-click to select it and click Remove.

Hi Safari,

The layout designer itself doens't have boxes to de-select; however, under basic customization etc, I cannot find any box to select or de-select that refers to sales tax, and there is none that is selected.

Any other ideas? Anyone????

Is the sales tax in the body of the invoice, or in the footer?

If it's in the footer, does the Layout Designer show a sales tax field?
If so, right-click to select it and click "Remove" as I said previously.

I am having the same problem... I have the HST on Sales line in the body of the invoice. I do not want it located there as we have pre-printed invoices that we use and there is spot allowcated on the the pre-printed invoice where the HST goes. How can this line item be removed from the body of invoice?

Hi Safari,

The sales tax line is not in the footer. It does sit below where the columns of the invoice are (that is, where a description of service is etc). The Layout Designer does NOT show a sales tax field. I cannot unselect it.
