Important Announcement! A planned system-wide upgrade will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend in the US (From Thurs, May 24, 2012 at 6 pm PDT thru Tues, May 29, 2012 at 5 am PDT). This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! During this time, you can shop, but can’t place orders online, activate products or update account info. We apologize for the inconvenience & thank you for patience while we improve our infrastructure to better serve you. International versions are unaffected. For more info, see our community discussion.

US QuickBooks Pro for Windows

Hello, I am interested in starting a small bookkeeping business and was recommended Quickbook Pro. I have a question, how many clients can I set in Pro? Also, does Pro support Payroll?

Check out the extra features in QuickBooks Premier Accounting edition.

Both QuickBooks Pro and QuickBooks Premier Accounting have several payroll subscriptions (at an extra cost)..

You have have as many company files (clients) as your computer's memory will hold.

Sorry, John R, not so.  There are definite limits regarding the file size of Vendors, customers, Items, etc., in QB Pro.  Check out the Help files.  Only QB Enterprise will likely give you a lifetime capacity for these.  (Seems to me that 14K total of all of the above is available in QB Pro.)

Barry:

I believe you misunderstood John's response. John said the number of clients was limited by the computer's memory because each client would have their own company file. The number of company files that you can have is only limited by the amount of memory available to your computer.
