When I upgraded from QB Mac 2011 to QB Mac 2012, about 20 email addresses disappeared. Tech support was useless. I re-entered them manually. A month later and 20 more email addresses missing. Tech support useless as usual. Anybody have a fix or is this just another QB Mac bug they're not talking about or fixing?
I have seen one other post here regarding this but do not recall a solution, someone should chime in here shortly if there is one. In the meantime be sure to use quickbooks>quickbooks feedback and submit a bug report.
Hmm - not something I recall seeing. Certainly if we knew this was happening and knew how to reproduce it we'd fix it right away.
The only thing I can think of is that you might have contact sync on and are losing them that way somehow?
Are you running the latest version as SkinnyRaven suggests? Are you transfering the file to Windows regularly?
I may have spoken too soon, I witnessed this today while editing an existing customers information. I had to add the e-mail twice saving each time before it stuck.
Can you reproduce it? I don't know why this would be (its just a text field) but apparently it is. If I can figure out how to reproduce it I can get it fixed.

The same thing has been happeing to us here for months now.... Very frustrating. I have premier 2011 for windows.
Good luck getting any help from Intuit, I've been trying to get help from them on this issue for a few months and another issue for five years and they have wasted my time, lied, even fraudulently used my credit card to buy five copies of QB and sign me up for unlimited tech support that I didn't want. Soon, somebody is going to start a class action suit against Intuit, and it'll be the first time I'll actually be willing to support that kind of action. I think Intuit's managment is MIA.
HMLOfficeMgr is talking about QuickBooks Premier on Windows. That's a different product entirely and you'd get better info on the QuickBooks Windows forums.
SCTech you are obviously very angry and I'm sorry. I would like to help with the email addresses disappearing issue. I believe you when you say it happens to your file. However so far I haven't been able to reproduce it which makes it very difficult (almost impossible) to fix. It doesn't seem to be very common and might be tied to something particular about your system set up.
I don't know why anyone at Intuit would fraudulently use your credit card. Intuit is a big corporation with billions in revenue. Selling another five pack isn't going to make any difference on a roll up chart. But like any big corporation there are tens of thousands of people involved and in a group of that many people there are bound to be a few bad apples. Or, more likely, someone just made a mistake.
Anyway, sorry your experience has been so poor. But HMLOfficeMgr is not having the same problem you are having as they are using a different product on a different OS and the code is not the same.
As an employee, you cannot acknowledge software bugs, it's an official Intuit policy. Intuit's tech support is among the worst rated for any company offering financial software. I have heard from so many people independently of this site, it's in the hundreds. As to recording five independent sales of QB Mac 2012 being a mistake, a second copy, maybe, but not five independent sales. As an employee, I would have thought you would offer to have somebody investigate, but since you didn't that says volumes about the interest in keeping users happy. Thank you for not helping me and the other person that wrote on this site about the same issue. Maybe next time, try using QB for Mac 2012 and you'll have the same proble. In the meantime, I'll be investigating every alternative to QB until I find one.
I acknowledge bugs on this forum all the time. I write them up and do my best to get them fixed.
I have no say whatsoever in how support is run. Personally I would contact my credit card company and tell them I did not authorize the charges. My experience has been that they will reverse them and deal with the other party for you.
I'm trying to help anyone who is having this issue. The best way for me to do that is by fixing the issue. However I have not been able to reproduce the issue. The problem for me is to do that. The other user who posted on this thread isn't having the same issue as you as they aren't using a Macintosh and the code isn't shared between platforms.
I actually do use QB for Mac 2012 and like it a lot and so far have not had this problem although I wish I did as then I could fix it.
Back to the problem...
To make headway on the problem I'm curious if people encountering this issue hhaves contact sync on? (Go to preferences and click on contact sync).
Contact sync works with Address Book and other programs on the Mac (including third party programs and MobileMe) to synchronize contacts so that changes in one program show in all the others.
Coding this was challening for QuickBooks mac as it does not treat contact the same way that, say, address book does. For instance in address book it is possible to delete a contact. Deleting a vendor in QuickBooks Mac would throw off your financials.
So QuickBooks Mac had to work around the APIs available to not allow certain operations to affect QB Mac data. This wasn't something foreseen by Apple when they designed Contact Sync.
Anyway, using ContactSync adds significant complexity. While I'm pretty confident in the implementation Lion may have brought changes and, possibly, bugs. So knowing if contact sync is on will help to know whether this is a possibile factor.
I have been having the same issue as well with Mac 2012. I don't make any changes in my Address Book; changes with Customer Information are made only in QB. Phone #'s and email addresses disappear quite a bit. I do have "Use Contact Sync" turned on.
Thanks la68 - could you try turning off ContactSync in QuickBooks and run it for a while? If the stuff stops disappearing the problem may be an interaction with Contact Sync.
Are you on Lion?
Note that Contact Sync shares data. Address book and QuickBooks are clients. Is is your iPhone and Outlook and other devices. Any one of these could be losing the email addresses. We need to figure out what is happening but its complicated by all the interactions.
I do not have Lion. I have Snow Leopard. Can't find Contact Synch in Snow Leopard to know whether it is on or off.
Thanks. You turn contact sync on and off in QuickBooks using the Company->Contact Sync settings menu. Please let me know if it is on or off. If it is on, try turning it off for a while and see if the problem stops happening.
I've asked a QA person to investigate but I don't know if they'll be able to reproduce it or not.
It's already off. I send out about 275 email invoices next Tuesday or Wednesday, so will see how many emails are missing then.
I turned contact sync off yesterday. I am on Snow Leopard. Will let you know...
Hello. Contact sync has been off since last Wed. I was just entering a PO and getting ready to email it. The mfg email address was in the Contact Info. I minimized QB to read a received email. When I returned to QB not 2 minutes later the contact information was gone. This is the first I have noticed that has disappeared since turning off Contact Sync. But others have been missing the last few days, I just don't know if they were there before and/or after I turned Contact Sync off. Thanks.
Good luck getting any real help from Intuit. They don't have any Tech Support for QB Mac. But they'll use your credit card fraudulently if you give them the number. Experienced and wiser.
