How do I open a QDF file if that is all I have?
I have only a "qdf" file from a client. Is there any way for me to open that file?

That is a Quicken Data file? You could download Quicken or convert the file to QuickBooks (which doesn't work seemlessly). File>New Company and select convert. If you convert to QuickBooks, you can't send it back to them to open in Quicken again.
