How do I import bank transactions saved in Excel to Quickbooks?
I am able to download my transactions for my credit cards into an excel spreadsheet, but once I do this, how do I import that into Quickbooks?

If it downloaded as an iif file, then you can go to File, Utilities, Import, iif. ALWAYS make a back up before you import anything!

I tried this same importing technique and instead of putting the transactions in the register, it created bank accounts for every transaction.
Did I miss a step?
Hi Satnam - did you ever get an answer - I'm trying to get bank account transactions from one qb file to another - I can export to excel but then importing, ......not so sure I have many pages of transactions that were entered to the wrong company. I can re-enter manually but if there's a way to import... ideas ? I'm thinking if I export CORRECTLY to a file maybe then I can import from an .xls file ...?

You cannot just import transactions from an excel file. If you download transactions from the bank or credt card company as a iif file, then you can import that file into QB (File, Utilitie, Import). If you want to import transactions from excel, you can buy a Data Transfer Utility at www.q2q.us.

I am also trying to import transaction data directly from an Excel Spreadsheet into QuickBooks. So then the answer is NO...you can't import transaction data directly from an Excel Spreadsheet into QuickBooks?
I tried that www.q2q.us website and the data transfer utility is for QB to QB data only....

Try using a utility from either Big Red Consulting (www.bigredconsulting.com) or Baystate Consulting (http://marketplace.intuit.com/.... I've used Big Red Consulting products with great success. I've not had an occasion to try Baystate products.

I'm still unclear as to the answer to the above question. My file is only in Excel. Can an .XLS or .XLSX file, which contains transaction data be imported directly into Quickbooks?
Not directly. You either have to convert the Excel information into a different file format - called the IIF format, or use a third party tool.
I gave links to two products in my comment above. The Big Red Consulting tool converts your Excel file into an IIF file to import, the Baystate Constulting tool imports directly.
But you can't just use Excel natively.
Another option is Statement Converter which is easy to use and inexpensive: http://community.intuit.com/po...
