This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! Your only option to freeze a return with the software is to put your computer in your freezer.  There is a certain, not to be named, user here that has pushed for that feature forever without any results.

The only option I know of is to go to through window's explorer to the data file and right click> properties> check the box for read only and apply.  Now you can open for viewing but you can't make changes.  You don't have to do this one at a time.  You can select all the files and do it at once.

Hail Cleo-Cat-Tra, Queen of Denial. I didn't do it.

(Whatever you do, don't ask ArchieLeach.)

If you use Pro Series Basic I might not be able to help you. If you use Turbo Tax I might refuse to help you. All others, watch out! ;-)

Yeah, whatever you do, don't ask me.  As far as Intuit's concerned, I'm the original chopped liver.

I guess I owe you a serious answer to your serious question.  What tilt suggested is the best I've been able to come up with.  If you make it read-only, you can't accidentally, and it won't accept any permanent changes.  The problem is, though, it LOOKS as though it's accepting input, you can't be sure until you close and reopen the file.

Another option, which I personally hate, is to offload the ProSeries prior year files after saving pdf's of them.

Morons. I've got MORONS on my team. Nobody is going to rob us going DOWN the mountain. We have got no MONEY going DOWN the mountain. When we HAVE GOT the money, goin' back UP the mountain, THEN you can sweat.

I love pate.  And I love chicken liver in general.  But even so, my method will work.

I thought your idea was a sure bet once you starting asking for  a padlock instead of a toggle switch.  I would have thought this post would have been enough to wipe that smile off of your face.

If you ever open a return that has been e-filed, always click  NO  when it asks if  you want want to save it. This will eliminate any changes you make on purpose or accidentally.

When anyone doing nothing needs help, I will gladly help that person do nothing.

This is what I do, too, Charlotte. I look at the top and see a prior year, so I click NO. It's a habit.
