From the link below:
Intuit Data Protect installs with QuickBooks 2011. As a result there isn't an option to remove Intuit Data Protect.
* You should not see the icon for Intuit Data Protect unless you have signed up and have an active service.
* If you cancel your service and wish to prevent Intuit Data Protect from loading, right-click the Intuit Data Protect icon located in the System Tray (by the clock) and select "Exit Intuit Data Protect". You may also need to remove Intuit Data Protect from your startup folder.

It is really (choose your favorite expletive) annoying that QB is such bloated bloatware. If you take that, plus the anti-virus bloatware and various other bloatware, well, you get the point. If you want to uninstall the service, do this:
1. Get to a cmd prompt with administrative rights
2. type sc stop QBCFMonitorService hit enter
3. type sc delete QBCFMonitorService hit enter
4. type sc stop QBVSS hit enter
5. type sc delete QBVSS hit enter
I see the Data Protect icon in my startup task bar each time I open my QB 2011 Pro application, and I do not subscribe to it, or any online services. I exit it every time it shows up, but to no avail! It's back again when I open the application the next time. And it isn't in my startup menu! Why is Intuit forcing this kind of stuff on us? I kick myself for ever upgrading from QB 2006 Pro. Once again I learned a hard lesson; newer and faster is not always better! I'm hoping that they will provide an update that will turn this absolute annoyance off?? It's crazy....
This is extremely annoying to me me as well. Why software forces you have to run a bunch of applications without anyway to turn them off is terrible.
This is the one thing I hate so far about the new quickbooks.
I am trying to assist, I do not work for Intuit, I am a Volunteer trying to answer questions.
Please bear with me and I will try to find answers.
I did find this that tells you how to deactivate (I hope):

The solution
Intuit has, once again, forced their marketing upon all users. I don't support this model, and agree with all the posts above that users should have a configurable choice. What is most intrusive is the notion that Intuit can start services which take up system resources (memory and CPU), without our consent to use such resources. I'm sure their argument would be - "Hey, if you use QB, you use it on our terms."
OK - having said that - HERE IS A SOLUTION:
If you delete the IntuitDataProtect folder or executable, it will auto install it all again (nice....). So, just rename IntuitDataProtect.exe to IntuitDataProtect.exe.old and create a new file called IntuitDataProtect.exe.txt and edit it. Place one command line as follows:
rem do nothing
Save the file as IntuitDataProtect.exe. Now when QB starts up, it will call and run the batch file which has one line - a remark line to do nothing, which will run almost instantly and do nothing, and QB will then continue to start up WITHOUT the DataProtect service running. Done. Hope this helps everyone with this terribly annoying change that was made to R4.

Hi,
I am sorry that you are planning to deactivate Intuit Data Protect. It would be great to hear from you as to what could we do better with this product.
To deactivate IDP, you can go to the Intuit Data Protect status page and then click on the manage my subscription link.
Thanks,

After looking at NUMEROUS posts I also noticed that in the Forum if you go to Home>Help with Intuit Products>Intuit Products>Intuit Data Protect
you may get more assistance than what I can offer.
I do not have this issue so I am not familiar with it.
If I can be of additional assistance let me know and I will try.
Merry Christmas
Renaming the .exe file to .old and creating a text file named to resemble the .exe file with only a remark line in it DEFINITELY SOLVES THE PROBLEM! Delete the IntuitDataProtect icon from the Startup menu, too.
The exe file is located in c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intuit\DataProtect.
Thank you for solving an annoying problem that Intuit should not have created in the first place. It is greedy programming policies like this one that make Intuit customers want to change to other accounting software vendors.
For some strange reason, I have followed these procedures precisely, however, when Quickbooks launches, it goes through the quickbooks setup and automatically recreates the .exe file.
In other words, no matter which way I create/modify or edit the file, it continues to automatically launch quickbooks installer at the launch of quickbooks, and automatically recreates the file.
In addition, I have set the service to disable as another user suggested.
I have followed both instructions very carefully but it does not work. This utility still launches and I cannot shut it down.
I am very unhappy that intuit jams bloatware on my system causing it to run slower and slower. I have a state of the art core i7 processor with 8 GB of ram and this version of quickbooks 2011 premier R4 is the slowest I have ever used because of the added "bloatware."
:(
Cancel the installer pop up, then create the replacement executable.
Hello,
I have been following these posts for a long while, I use THREE windows operating systems. The offered solutions have worked for me on my Win XP, and my Win Vista systems.
BUT My primary (favorite OS) is Win 7 (32 bit). and NONE of the offered solutions has helped me at all!
Does ANYONE know how to "deactivate" this annoying program on Win 7?
I'm ready to demand a refund, and cancel all of the QuickBooks 2011. My 2007 version worked just FINE, before I installed this [removed]!

Okay, we have a kill for the IDP!
Don't overlook using Windows to manage the Service: there is a QBVSS service that is "QBIDPService" and I set mine to Disable.
What about the Sync that also loads for QB 2011? If you open the file and look at Edit menu > Preferences, Integrated Applications, Company Preferences, tab, I can remove Sync Mgr and checkmark Don't Allow, but this keeps coming back on this Preference screen.
Yes, I actually have shortcut icons on my computer that link me directly with Windows computer management, Windows Defender, and msconfig.exe. This keeps me in full control as to what is running on my computer.
I use W7 64-bit QB2011 Premier.
I downloaded latest version of data protect as described here: http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/Articles/HO...
And then: Go to Start>Programs>Startup, and view properties on Intuit Data Protect. Remove "/startup" from the shortcut path. Click Apply and OK.
It seems to be working. No more IDP pop ups.
Sounds good. I ended up uninstalling then reinstalling without any updates/releases including the new R6. I have never had issues with this since.

Wow! Thank goodness I bought about 10 extra copies of QB2005 at the end of the year 2005, and as people want to be on the same version of QB as I'm on, they can just buy one of those extra copies at cost. What a pain for you other folks to have to jump thru hoops to stop a pain in the neck (or, worse yet, when jumping thru the hoops still didn't help).
Finally I found a working solution to this mess. Currently running W7, 64 bit, Professional. Several times a day, I had to reboot due to Intuit Data Protect gobbling up the resources. When clicking on the right bottom task bar, I had close to 95 of the data protect icons!. Rather that try a number of 'rename file' options listed below, I used a very simple trick - DENY the operating system permission to run the program. Simply click on the icon, properties, and change the permission for the system, users, etc from ALLOW to DENY. All it takes is for a member in one group to have the deny permission the the exe is denied. Works like a charm!
Tim-
You did it. I changed the permissions on the file and it won't run. At all. Thank you.
By the way, this is the fail-safe way to be sure your system resources aren't being used and your time is not being wasted (renaming files that will just be replaced later).
I have absolutely had it with Intuit. If I wasn't so invested with Quickbooks, I would have been gone years ago. They just constantly find ways to continue to [removed] me off and cost me money. I just want to get back to work and Intuit constantly hinders that process--CONSTANTLY.
Anybody want to start an accounting program? Message me.
Hey Tim,
You're the man! I've been searching for so long for a solution to this new annoyance from Intuit, playing around with all the ideas found in the community and even the silly response Intuit employees post on the support page, repeateted by the lady above who probably doesn't even know what we're talking about and never bothered to verify that the Intuit "solution" is a joke.
The only real thing Intuit has said is that "it's an integral part of QB and cannot be disabled"
There, all you stupid customers, take that! We put that [removed] in there and it's your job to use it and send us money to pay for a half-assed backup solution, regardless of the fact that there are tons of better cloud solutions out there, some even for free! Oh, and if you think you can just disable our offering, you've got another thing coming. We'll nag you until you can't take it any more and surrender to our command!
Thank God for Tim, who with just a few clicks of the mouse just fixed this long-standing peeve. Genius!
Thanks again.
HELLPPPP!!!
I followed Tim's directions, now I can't access Quickbooks, nor can I change my permissions back!!! When I click on the icon, nothing happens. Right clicking the icon, there is no 'open' option. When I go back to the security option in properties, I am told I don't have permission to make any changes!!!
HEELLLLPPPP!
Thanks...
I found another solution that works with QB2012 without other bugs (yet).
Beat the system. I found a file called IDPScheduler.cfg which has the dates of last backup and next scheduled backup in the text.
Open the file in Notepad and change the dates. There are several dates in there and I changed them all. Just changed the year (2011) to (2015).
Now quickbooks doesn't think about the backup at all. The file is located at
C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Local Settings\Application Data\Intuit\Intuit Data Protect
