How do I account for advertising donations taken out of inventory?
I use Quickbooks Pro. When I input an advertising promotion inventory giveaway, I do an inventory adjustment and put it under the advertising expense account. But when Quickbooks gives a tax summery it accounts for the material (cogs) under advertising for these items. Then when I input my inventory (beginning and end) into TurboTax, it looks at my beginning, end, and $ sold to determine the COGS for the year... The $s that were spent to buy the materials to make the goods that were used as advertising promotions are still accounted for in these numbers, so they make my COGS go up... but, the COGS for the advertising items is also put in the blank for advertising in another business section of TurboTax. How do I make it so I am not double dipping for these advertising promotions?
