The gas prices has also increased shipping costs and just about everything else. I have reduced the miles I drive. Walking when I can. I am just not able to service some customers in person anymore. Fortunately, I can still teach them online. It is also cheaper for them so that helps them as well. Right now it is working, but I need a long term solution.
One of the public school districts here is now considering not renewing a contract with the bus company and cutting all bus service as the bus company is trying to pass on the extra cost at a rate that would eat up the school's tranportation budget for 2 years.
Right now, I am absorbing the extra gas expense and still making a profit. I am also looking at the tax deductions and whether it is better for me, to deduct the standard 50 cents a mile or actual costs.
Thanks for the question~!
This is a good question. If anyone has ideas, i would love to hear about them

In any economy prices rise, in this down economy (regardless of what the stats say) you bite the bullet as long as you can, hoping that when you have to raise prices, the economy will have improved enough.
School budgeting is our major problem too, we went to a flat rate for travel some years ago and have not raised it. Schools like it better since they can budget flat rates easier as opposed to itemized expenses and per diem/mileage rates.
