I wanted to start my own book keeping/accounting business but don't want to end up without health insurance and put my family at risk. What do you all do for health insurance? The forum isn't dead, but you may have asked about something that is uncommon amongst the folks on this forum. Personally, I'm covered through my wife's group plan at her work.

I have been self-insured for 25 years. If you already have an insurance agent for auto/home ask them if they do health insurance or could recommend an agent who does. They will provide you with quotes from various carriers and you could pick and choose. You can also contact some carriers direct such as (I'm not sure if any of these service your area) Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Health Net, Kaiser Permanente and others.
I started a bookkeeping biz in Jan. I've paid for my own health insurance for several years, as I managed a small architecture firm where employees paid for their own policies. Currently, I have an HSA, which helps keep the monthly premium lower. HSAs are not for everyone, however.
There are brokers who can help you and also professional business organizations that can help you find help ins. Meantime, pay cobra until you are covered.
