general ledger entry for Payment of deferred payroll

US QuickBooks Pro for Windows : 2010

Using QB Pro Non-Profit (Accrual). Salary of upper management deferred in 2011 then paid in 2012. Posted in 2011 in the A/P account so liability would show in management reports. Payment has been made in 2012. Need the general ledger entry to properly show the payroll expense in 2011and not in 2012. Client uses QuichBooks Enhance Payroll.

That would be an error.

Payroll Expense would be offset to an Unpaid PR liability account. This is not AP activity.

This would be reversed on the first of the year.

Are you working with a CPA?

Even for accrual basis tax filers, payroll is not necessarily accrued.
