Financial Statement Designer

Has anyone experienced problems with Financial Statement Designer running excruciatingly slow? I'm suious that it's a FSD problem because I can open normal company files and reports quickly and easily. I tried using this application Friday and today and ran into the same problem, it seems to take a long time to pull up a template and similarly takes a long time to add rows. I should point out that I'm running on a very new computer (PC) with heaps of memory, etc.Just curious if it's my computer or ?Thanks for any help.

It's not your computer... FSD is slow. It has to sit there and think about what to do when you change something, and then if you're lucky, it'll actually do it right. I am highly disappointed with the way the Qbks people sold this to us. I know it will get better in the future, but we stopped buying the upgrades to our other financial statement program to use FSD and now we're regretting it.

Thanks for your follow up Carol. I called QB about this and asked why anyone would bother with FSD if it's this slow. Their only response was that the statements produced by FSD are GAAP compliant.
I have any easier time just exporting to Excel and working through that, however I can't create templates and use them for all my clients of a particular industry (retail for instance), without the added step of reentering their specific data into the Excel cells.

Do you recommend any other software (or options) for creating fairly customized financial documents?
Thank you again for your input.

We use this program called Client Write Up for Windows by PC Software, Inc. I have never had to setup a statement in this program, only made changes, and it's pretty easy to use. If you use QuickBooks first, then you can import the period's information into Client Write Up. It's a simple program, but it does the job. Other than that, I've only worked with Peachtree (which is good for setting up statements the way you want) and Creative Solutions Write Up Solutions, which I've heard is rather expensive. I don't know if you can import info from QuickBooks into Peachtree, but it wouldn't be a bad idea if it can do that. You can also do 1099's that QuickBooks won't do in the Client Write Up program, like 1099-INT.

I have used Creative Solutions in conjunction with Quickbooks for the past few years. You can import the information directly from your QB data file into a CS file and produce the FS exactly as you want to see them. The setup is fairly simple - just assigning the matching accounts is a bit time-consuming, but once it's done that's it!
