Estimated tax payments exceed taxable income.
ProSeries : 2011The program says "Tax payments may not be greater than taxable income for electronic filing". Why?
The program says "Tax payments may not be greater than taxable income for electronic filing". Why?

It appears to be a known glitch, based on this post.

There is alot of posts on this subject. You say taxable income. Is that what the error says? Because it has always been the rule that tax paid or withheld cannot be greater then gross income. So if it is really gros income error then it is and always has been correct. There is no rule that est. tax has to be less than taxable income so that would be a Proseries error.
According to Proseries, you cannot efile a return with zero taxable income and a refund due to payment of estimated taxes. Crazy.
My client had no taxable income, but had self employment taxes due. He made estimated payments, but still owes $2,000. I'm getting the error that I can't e-file because his estimated tax payments exceed his taxable income. Why??
There is a glitch. Just make sure that is the only error on return, turn off the error checking, transmit the return. IRS accepts it and that solves the problem. It only takes a second.
Carol:
Thank you for that information! I did not know that! I have not had any yet but I will keep that in mind in case I do.
Thanks!
Dusty
You are very welcome. I have done a couple of them...they have been accepted by IRS within an hour or so with no problems. I guess there is always a way around things, huh. Well, I guess most of the time!
Thanks so it will go through huh? with error checking turned off?
I turned off error checking and tried to submit the return but it was rejected. This is the only error on the return. Any advice on how to get this return to process?
Intuit - Can you not do an update to fix this problem? It's not like it's no known.
Tried again and this time it went through. Thanks for all the tips.
You're welcome. Give someone a solve then, so the thread can be closed.
