Important Announcement! A planned system-wide upgrade will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend in the US (From Thurs, May 24, 2012 at 6 pm PDT thru Tues, May 29, 2012 at 5 am PDT). This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! During this time, you can shop, but can’t place orders online, activate products or update account info. We apologize for the inconvenience & thank you for patience while we improve our infrastructure to better serve you. International versions are unaffected. For more info, see our community discussion.

Escrow Refund Check

US QuickBooks Pro for Windows : 2011

I have set up an other current asset acount titled:  Escrow.  Each month, I break out the mortgage payment and I debit mortgage: Interest, mortgage: principal,  I debit this escrow account and credit my checking account for the total mortgage payment to the bank.  When I receive a refund from the mortgage company for an overpayment, do I credit this escrow account?  My confusion lies in that in the detailed statement received from the bank, there is no record of payments paid (escrow shortage) or payments received (escrow refund).

The initial payment should not all go to Escrow.

You are paying Principal, Interest, and Escrow. Do the splits on the payment.

Then, the Escrow account is used for Taxes and/or insurance.

And yes, refunds for overpayment would be posted to Escrow, to reduce the balance you show they have of your funds.
