I have never dealt with an ITIN, but I'm pretty confident you have a bad number - you need to verify the number.
Hello Irmn,
I've had this problem with 3 clients in the last week. In all cases, I've entered in ITIN number exactly as it appear on original IRS letter.
I'm an ITIN certifying acceptance agent and process ITIN numbers all the time.
I've never seen this issue before until now
This has to be a software bug with the program. Please check it out.
Thanks
sorry the you have had the same problem but, you can't send it by mail because the program does not calculate credits with wrong itin #'s.?

Look at a copy of the letter which issued it.

David,
The people here are all tax preparers. If you believe it to be a software issue with ProSeries and are not getting any response here you should contact tech support.

To Toni, please do as IRMN suggested. Then contact Support.
David may or may not have a different issue.
Toni, I dont have a problem entering ITIN's. If you are entering those numbers correctly it MUST be an issue with your software.
Do you get your error on the W-2 worksheet? Have you entered the social security they use to work with? If your error comes up on the Client Worksheet then I would check with support.
I just got this email from the IRS ITIN Policy Section.
These new ITINS can't be efiled.
See the cut and pasted portion below.
Acceptance Agent Alert!!!!
If you have experienced problems when trying to efile your clients returns with an ITIN (assigned within the last few months), it's probably because they have been assigned a number in the new series. The new series begins with 9XX-90-XXXX. Due to a computer programming problem, these returns are not being accepted by the system. Therefore, returns with the ITIN in the series identified above must be filed by paper until the system recognize the series. As soon as we are notified that this issue has been resolved, we will notify you. Please do not continue to efile these returns
Hmmmm....I had no idea they changed the series. I have not run across anyone with this series. I hope they fix this soon, Good Luck!
I'm a CAA and I didn't get this email... weird!! Maybe I should email the department and make sure they have my email address in the system.
Thanks!
Maria
