The C=224 error is caused by broken links in the file. Intuit is aware of the issue. This is a non-fatal error that should allow you to use the data file without any problems.

This error may appear several times after clicking OK

Error occurs while Running Reports/backup/verify/rebuild

In most cases, rebuilding the file will fix the broken links.

  • If the error appears while backing up the file, clear the Verify data integrity checkbox located at the bottom of the QuickBooks Backup window.
  • If the C=224 error appears while rebuilding the file, click OK until the rebuild completes or another message appears. If the error appears many times, it might be easier if you press and hold the Enter key.

Important: Do not close QuickBooks or end the qbw32 process from Task Manager. The Rebuild process can take some time to complete.

After a successful rebuild, run the verify utility on the file. For more information, go to QuickBooks in-product Help and search for "Using the Verify data utility."

Error occurs when Quickbooks is launched
  1. Hold down the Ctrl key while opening QuickBooks. The No Company Open window opens listing company files you've previously opened
  2. Hold down the Alt key while opening your QuickBooks company file. Your company file will open without any previously opened windows.
  3. Rebuild the file to fix the broken links.
If the error persists

Check the Qbwin.log file to see which transactions are causing the error.

To locate the QBWIN.log file, please choose from one of these options:

From QuickBooks:

  1. Press F2 and then press F3 on the keyboard to open the Tech Help window.
  2. Click the Open File tab and select QBWIN.LOG from the list of files. To view the location of the file, click the Path On/Off button.
  3. Click the Open File button.

From Microsoft Windows Explorer:

  1. Right-click the Microsoft Windows Start button, and select Search, and then click For Files or Folders.
  2. Select the Tools menu and select Folder Options . The Folder Options window opens.
  3. Click the View tab and select the Show hidden files and folders checkbox in the Advanced Settings list.
  4. Click the Apply button, and then click OK.

You can find the specific transaction by searching for doc# in the Qbwin.log file. Each doc# corresponds to a transaction that is creating an error. It is necessary to delete and reenter the transactions to fix the problem. After deleting and reentering the damaged transactions, verify the data file again.

I keep getting the c=224 error but it is when i click on "RECONCILE NOW".

I dont get the error during backup or while running reports.  I have validated my file and everything seems fine.

Any ideas??  Somewhere I read to upgrade to 2012 version 6 but I think that was on the Intuit USA website!

Thanks!

I have been getting C224 error when I run Company Snapshot. I was unaware that I could hold down the enter key to get out of the error so I exit the program a few time throught the task manager. Can this be fix now. I have rebuilt the file etc, but still will get the C224 error from time to time. I noticed there is a fix in Version 6 but I think that is for the US version

Taken from the above FAQ article:

If the error appears when opening Snapshots, review the preferences.

  1. Click the Edit dropdown.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Choose Reports and Graphs and select the My Preferences tab.
  4. Under Graphs Only, If 'Use patterns' is ticked, un-tick it.  Instead, tick the preference 'Draw graphs in 2D (faster)

I did as you suggested, I click both Patterns and 2D and that seem to fix the C224 error. I have noticed on start up in the upper left corner of the screen I see "NOT RESPONDING" and I have noticed the same message sometimes durning back up. I'm affraid I did on occassion use Windows Tak Manager to close to program, at the time I was unaware that I could hold down the enter key to clear the C224 error. I hope my company file is not corrupt, everything seems normal except when in Snapshot I run Prev.Year Income the first week from last year is not right. It is showing as a very high income for that week.
