Important Announcement! A planned system-wide upgrade will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend in the US (From Thurs, May 24, 2012 at 6 pm PDT thru Tues, May 29, 2012 at 5 am PDT). This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! error -6189,-77 When trying to open a company

US QuickBooks Pro for Windows : 2008

Error code -6189,-77 in QBP 2008. I am Trying to open another company and get the error "Quickbooks was unable to open the company file "C...." on your computer. A possible error for this may be that you don't have read/write permission for the files..." I tried using both a backup of the file and using a copy from a CD.

I will check further, but:

Error: "-6189, -82" when opening QuickBooks
Update QuickBooks to the latest release, create a new user account, and ensure that the QBDataServiceUser(XX) has appropriate permissions to access the file.

Error 6189: "QuickBooks is unable to determine the cause of the error on the local file" when opening the company file

I would copy the QB file to the local network and try it there.
