Amy, since we aren't going to Install the recent update, is there a way to find the patch file on our computers and delete it, or reset a flag, or something, to roll back the pop up that keeps asking to install it? You never know when a user might go ahead and let it install, in error or out of being "helpful."
If you get an emailed Survey, please take a moment to follow up here, too. Thanks!
I agree qbteachmt. I'm checking with our support people right now to see if it can be done. Thought at one point it was possible. It is also worth mentioning that people will want to turn off Automatic Updates in QuickBooks and/or Enterprise until we have this fixed.
Select Help>Update Quickbooks to do this.

So what's happening with this? I have R8 and am not having these issues. Should I uninstall it?
BR
We have the R8 update and have no issues. Leave it alone its only for people who have issues.

2011 R9 is out now, and it fixes many of these issues.

I'm downloading that update and Webroot keeps jumping up during the install and says the download file is infected.
When I downloaded it on the 17th I didn't have any problems - my Norton system passed it as clean.
Since this is a "patch" file, it is an executable that will be modifying programs on your PC, and sometimes some virus checkers will have a problem with that. We've had problems in the past with other virus checkers giving false warnings in the past (AVG is notorious for giving "false positives" to QB updates like this over the past several years).
What specific "infection" is Webroot notifying you about?
I just installed Webroot to test this. I downloaded the patch (saved it to my system, rather than running it) and Webroot didn't have a problem with the download. I then ran the downloaded patch on my system, and webroot didn't complain.
I'm wondering if you "ran" rather than "saved" the patch file? Don't run it directly from their web site, download it instead. You may find that some virus programs don't like it if you actually "run" it directly from the download site.
I did run it directly. I didn't record the Webroot detection, happened twice (I think it was some type of heur detected and it stopped the installation). It's the brand new Webroot which changed dramatically quite recently. Will save it first, thanks. This is all on account of installing Enterprise to do the certification courses. Thanks.
We also have had problems with R8. When intering bills all users were locked out form the company file. Also R8 allows for out of balance postings in the bills area. This will also cause your company file not to verify and rebuild. We have downgraded all of our computers and server to the old version.
Enterprise 11 (which this discussion is about) is up to R10 now...
I'm curious about the statement "allows out of balance posting in the bills area". Is there a specific thing that you could do that would create a problem here? Can you give me specifics? I'd like to see if I could duplicate that...
Dear OutOfTheBlue,
I don't think QuickBooks understands all of the issues and problems that have occured with the R8 update. I talked with them yesterday and gave them information and details about what is occurring in the program. They seemed to be unaware of all the problems. I will list the problems I have discovered will occur in version R8. Also we have downgraded to version R6 and it DID NOT work. We are on hold until we do some more research.
Our R8 Problems:
1) When a user is in any A/P or vendor area they will lock out others form the company file
2) The vendor/bills area of the program will allow an out of balance posting
3) The company file will not verify or rebuild after the out of balance occurs
4) The general ledger/trial balance will be out of balance when this occurs
5) You A/P Aging Summery may have a few strange amounts show up
The problem occurs when working with P.O.'s, recieving materials, and then intering a bill. If the amounts are not the same a posting is allowed when recording the transaction.
Not sure if you are referring to me or not...
You say you "downgraded to R6" and the the problems still exist? That isn't clear.
And, again, the current release is R10, and in general you are less likely to find problems in the latest release (although that isn't always the case), so why are you trying R8 and not R10?
In addition, many times odd problems like what you are talking about can be created by some damage in your company file. Have you tried creating a brand new file and seeing if you can get these problems to occur?
I just realized that if you post a bill that is out of balance in R8 it also affects your general ledger. If you happen to post a transaction out of balance it will cause you trial balance to also be out of balance. This is a major problem. You could spend hours trying to figue out why your trial balance is out.
