Entering historical payroll info

I started doing payroll for a client in October. I had to quickly set up his payroll account for his next payroll.During this set-up, I did not add the already terminated employees at that time. Now, I wish to add them for the W-2 processing but QBs is not letting add historical transactions for 2006.Does anybody know how I can do this? Thank you,

i don't know why you can't add them ... may be because of the fed/state reports generated ... could be you have the period locked from posting (see 'preferences') ...

BUT ... just go down to staples/officemax and pick up ADAMS TAX FORMS and prepare the W-2s from that program ...

doesn't solve your quickbooks problem ... but it's going to resolve your W-2 issuing problem quicker than waiting for intuit or one of us to tell you why ...

Bob,

I don't know why this happens but I have run into the problem with a couple of clients. One client we didn't have all information before we had to start processing the payroll so for all current employees we couldn't enter the information.

It couldn't have been a closed or locked period, because it was a brand new company in 2006.

I'm thinking with QB and the new way they do it.

I did find work around for my problem, sense it didn't involve many employees.

It might be easier in your case to go to officemax and get the outside program.

For future reference, payroll support called me to answer my question. She showed me how to go in "the back way" and enter last year's historical data.
You go to the "help" menu and select, "About QuickBooks." A window pops up where you enter Ctrl/Alt/Y, then a window pops up where you can enter historical data. (I had to change the dates to 12/31/2006).
