Entering church tithes & offerings
Trying to enter church contributions (tithes & offerings) in Quickbooks. Which window do I use? Have used donation and pledge but when I record the offering amount it shows a credit. How do I record these properly?

Hi KathyL-
first, I'd want to ask if you use another software to record each individual tithe? Or are you wishing to recording them individually in Qkbs?
If your contributor has made a pledge to you, post that in invoices (or pledges), then use payments to record the contributions toward that pledge.
If your contributor has not made a pledge (or if you don't track such things), then use sales receipts.
You also need to set up a good set of items in order to track whatever income types you require.
Kathy,
If you do have another program to track and produce giving statements (often called a CMS congregation management system) then we created a general Customer/Donor called Giving Members.
Then, as Mr. Klein mentioned, use the Donations (Sales Receipt) form to enter in your weekly offerings. Realize that although they call this a non-profit edition it is still programed to think of any money coming into our church as a "Sale" of an "Item". That is why Mr. Klein said you need to create Items to "sell" (i.e. for people to give to). We created Items called Offering, Missions, etc.
Make sure you make your own unit of measure which we called Giving Unit so that when you record your offerings in the Sales Receipt window, you can include how many givers gave to offerings, missions, etc.
Then, remember to go to the deposit screen and deposit the offerings--otherwise the offerings remain in a Quickbook account called Undeposited Funds.
Brian, when I go to the deposit screen, I see the Sales Receipt amount but also a negative or credit for the same amount. Am I missing something?
