Entering Budgets into QB for MAC

I'm having trouble with the budget function in QB.  When entering the budget details, I clicked on the Apply button to save the info.  I can exit the budget window, go back in and see the data that I've entered.  However, when I try to run a budget overview or budget variance report, no budget information appears on the report.  Anyone have any insight on how to fix this?

Hello Dottie133,

I"m sorry you are experiencing such a puzzling issue. It would help to know what year of the program. When I look at the setup in 2010, I am able to enter in budget information and then have it display in both the variance and overview reports. So first question I have is, do your date ranges for the budget and the reports match. Also, is your version of the program on the most current release? To make sure of this, select QuickBooks>Check for QuickBooks updates. If you've answered yes to all of this, then we may have a data issue. To test this, open a sample company and try entering in budget data. See if it shows up in the sample company.

Lets start with these questions and see what direction the answers take us.

Best regards,

Amy K

I'm having a variation of this problem and thought I'd post here.  Maybe this will spark a workaround for Dottie.

I've entered all my budget information (QuickBooks for Mac 2010).  I run a nonprofit and use several different classes.

If I run P&L BvA, I don't see any numbers in the Budget column.

If, however, I change it so that Classes are listed in columns (rather than the default Months), everything shows up!

I've tried several variations of filters and customizing, but can't find any way to show P&L BvA month by month for any individual class.  The budget just shows up blank.  The only way I can see the budget is to make the columns shows the Classes.

Odd, no? And a bit frustrating.

AmyK --

Have you checked to see that this works on income accounts as well as expense accounts? I have been fighting this problem -- which I see as a bug -- for some time. My experience is you often can get the budget amounts for expense accounts to show on reports, but that the budgets for income accounts appear only sporadically. Elsewhere on this forum I have outlined a tedious procedure I used to work around this using IIF files, but that's certainly not a "real" answer for this ongoing problem.

I'm not an expert or anything, but to me it looks like the code enabling budgets has gotten itself screwed up around the issue of whether or not a class is associated with a budget. The routines seem not to be particularly happy if one account has -- or has ever had -- a class associated with it and others do not.

By the way, Intuit -- when you're fixing all this (and I hope you are working [removed] it), I hope you provide a mechanism for completely erasing a budget and starting over.
