Electronic Filing Taxable Income Less Then Estimated Pmts

ProSeries

Is it true that you cannot efile if the estimated payments are greater than taxable income. I have never heard of this and this was not the case last year. The client has numerous rental properties that get his income down to this level. Thanks

There have been a few posts on that issue and someone said it was a bug in the system but nobody seems to know if an/or when it might be corrected.

If this answers your question please click, um, ok I forgot what you are supposed to click. If this answered your question, how about just saying thanks and we will call it good.

I had the same problem.  Talked to Intuit Support and they said to transmit it without the error checking.  I did and it was fine.  IRS accepted it and all is well.

who am I and how did I get here.

Another post refers to turning off error checking. I have a return with this problem, and I want to try to transmit via efile "without the error checking"... How do you turn off error checking?

Before doing this, be sure you have the most up to date version of the software.  Then open your federal and each state return and run an error check on each to make sure you have no errors.  If there's any red ink on the screen I would clear it before trying this.

Instructions apply to ProSeries Professional, not sure if they are the same in Basic.  I'm giving you soup to nuts instructions although most of this should be obvious.

From the EF Center.  Highlight the return you want to submit.  Pull down E-File:Electronic Filing:Convert/Transmit Returns/Extensions/Payments...

Select Convert and Transmit selected returns/extension/payments.

UNCHECK the box that says Enable conversion error checking.

Click OK.

PLEASE post back if this works, I'd like confirmation.  Also post back in a couple days if/when you get the ACK back from IRS.  And again if/when your client receives a refund (if applicable).

Rick, I can confirm that this procedure works.  I had filed one of these returns 02/03 BEFORE the error appeared in proseries.  It was accepted the same day.  When the error started showing on a return in progress after a proseries update, I opened the one that had already been accepted and the error was now showing on it.  Since I had already received acceptance on this type of return,  on 2/06 I filed the second return which was showing the error.  I used the procedure that you have outlined.  That return was accepted within hours.  Both of my clients had balance due returns so I can't confirm anything about refunds.  I agree with Archie on this one, it is a proseries program bug and the MEF is accepting these type of returns.  A poster on one of the many threads concerning this issue stated that chat actually told her to use this procedure.

Thanks Marlene.

Unfortunately the instructions from ProSeries appear to be contradictory.  That's why it's so important for folks like you to post back your actual experiences.

Many thanks.

I have a return with this problem, and which is a refund return. So, once it is final, I will try to send it via efile with error checking turned off, and report back.

The explanation provided by PreSeries here is not satisfactory (maybe if we were efile programmers): http://my.proseries.intuit.com...

Upon reading reason F1040-071-01, Form 1040 Line 61 "Withholding TaxAmt" must be not greater than the sum of a series of income amounts (lines 7, 15, 16, 19, 20a & 21, plus cumulative gross receipts from Scheduled(s) C & C-EZ). Intuit programmers are apparently equating the sum of these series of income items and calling that sum "taxable income". That does not make sense. When I add up my clients income items as enumerated in F1040-071-01, I end up with an entirely different result than taxable income, and the result is far in excess of the amount on line 61. Further explanation would be helpful to demonstrate how Proseries is justifying a program error on line 63 of 1040 by referring to the IRS error code explanation for line 61 of 1040.

Has anyone received a definite answer on this error message?  I see one person submitted with the error and the IRS accepted it.  Are we to assume it's a ProSeries bug and submit without clearing the error?  What's the general thought on this?

Jack,

Thanks for the info.  I don't have any answers either, just trying to help folks since a LOT of people are affected by this.  Unfortunately I don't have a return to play around with in this situation so we need someone else to be a guinea pig.

So, trying to "Think Outside the Block" as you say...

Is it possible to transmit these returns under legacy instead?

Under Electronic Filing:Options there's a check box that says "Allow 1040 Returns to be transmitted as modernized."  I'm wondering if we uncheck that block, send the questionable returns, then recheck the box for future (other) returns would that work?

Thoughts?

Rick

All,

Please follow the instructions present in the article below. This will allow you to successfully transmit the return that is receiving the error.  We are currently investingating the error further and will likely make adjustments to the error..

http://my.proseries.intuit.com/support/document.aspx?id=GEN84047

If the return is rejected, it may be necessary to paper file unless a processing issue is identified. If the return does not match the conditions in the reject description, contacting the eHelpDesk with the Submission ID of the return (located in the EF Center HomeBase) may aid in recognition of any processing related issues.  If we identify any processing relating issues, we will report them as well.

Is it just me or is that the wrong link above?  I get something about a state refund and Santa Barbara tax product.

John?

Thanks,
